i keep a 60lb pittbull to my left, and a 1911 l&c to my right. and the kitten sleeps on my belly usually. we're a pretty good little team. the dog barks if anything is sketchy, i check things out, and the kitten.. well, the kitten doesn't do much in the way of home defense, but she is fluffy and cute. i used to keep my 1911 away from my bed at night. i thought about it though, if a BG is downstairs, i would prefer them to not hear thumping footsteps if i need to retrieve my gun. also, in a situation like that, i don't want to waste time tip-toeing. if i ever feel i need my gun, i need it RIGHT THEN. there is no need to discuss how valuable seconds can be.

I sleep with my G26 on the nightstand, and my early detection system is my cat. She's afraid of her own shadow, and whenever anyone strange even gets close to the house, she runs like a bat out of hell to my bedroom and jumps on the bed. I'm a pretty deep sleeper, but a 25 pound cat jumping on top of me is sure to wake me up.

I hate the night stands my wife picked out, they look more like tables. It's an open design and has a small lower second tier that is totally useless for anything except, as it turns out...my gun.
I have 2 toy poodles(go ahead, I can take it) They let you know whats going on. They have different barks for different threats. You always know just how close someone is. I guess everyones dog is like that but it's pretty cool. They're good watchdogs. They only weigh 4 pounds though, so I'm glad I have that little shelf beside me!

That's why I put it under a different pillow. I'm a "bad" sleeper too, I've woken up on floors, with extra clothes, with clothes off, in strange positions, in different rooms, etc.

I have three dogs, that wake me up when anything goes bump in the night, also because of a special needs child in the house my 1911 is in a lock box on my night stand, and the key is on a phone cord looking thing around my wrist.

I don't know if this is paranoid but I'm a little scared to put my striker fired M&P 40c with no manual safety under my pillow. for now i'll just place it under my bed.

Too bad would be burglars are not reading this thread. I think they would think twice about breaking and entering - lol. I have a motion detection system in the downstairs of my house. So if anyone tries to come in they set it off. It works really well and is loud. It also does not detect my cats although it does detect my wife in the morning sometimes when she forgets to shut it off when she goes down.

I have my .357 within reaching distance from my bed and my 9mm a few feet from that. Plus I have a huge hunting knife and nightstick on my bed stand.

My gun is not under the pillow that my head is on, it's actually under a pillow that's next to me and so far it hasn't fallen off the bed yet. Since I don't have a wife, I use the pillow next to me to stash my firearm. (sometimes my pillow makes a good/loving wife, though. Hehehuh?)

I have two dogs... pugs. Go ahead, get your laughs. Bottom line is, they make a hell of a racket when something is going on that shouldnt be. The ruckuss is enough to get me up and ready. I have a Kel-tec P3AT on the night stand next to me (Loaded) and a Kel Tec Sub 2000 (9mm) folded under my side of the bed. Keep the Sub 2000 folded, but a loaded magazine in it. To get her ready for action, I need to unfold her, then work the bolt once, ready to rock. Have a great tac light with a pressure switch on the front of her... looks like a friggin train comin at ya!!!

Having once dozed off at a Slayer Concert... I can sleep through anything, except gunshots.

My parents live in an area with too many welfare homes (section 8).

We have two dogs that used to bark at every little sound. Now that they are both eleven they have become pretty heavy sleepers. So we have talked about some kind of alert system. I keep my PT111 in a holster strapped to my bed post so I can easily reach it. I toss and turn far to much to keep it under my pillow.
