Now we are getting a black eye. They've got a write up of it on Yahoo! News and they're talking about it on FOX. We are definitely looking stupid at the moment.

The most disturbing things from the article at the inquirer are the forum posts about the article.
"This madness has to stop. The availability of hand guns and lack of psychological screenings of gun owners only lends itself to the proliferation of gun violence. No "anger management" class can solve this continuing problem." "If this dad thinks pulling a gun can get his kid more playing time, he's going to have to shot a lot of people by the time the kid gets to the big show. That probably won't happen though, as the kid will more than likely kill one of his friends with that gun before he's 12." "In this incident at least no one was shot! I feel the only ones permitted to have guns should be law enforcement or related. Our country is out of control with regard to shootings. Look at Canada's per capita gun related incidents to ours; it's really bad here. I love the USA, but something has got to be done to tighten up our gun control." This is the kind of sentiment this is breeding. There are a few who do contend that CCW isn't the problem... but the overwhelming majority are anti-gun... |

You have to take the audience into consideration though. This is a major city newspaper that has had the left in charge since the seventies. VERY strong union and very heavily, somewhere in the neighborhood of 8:1, Democrat. A lot of the people in philly would love the gov't taking care of them from cradle to grave, maybe not everyone but certainly a large number. This paper caters to the left, I'm not surprised by ANY of those posts.

i think the last 5 paragraphs of the article inadvertently show that this really is not a gun issue, despite what the writer attempted to spin...
based on those paragraphs, will aluminum bats be banned at softball games?? will parents/adults be banned from attending their kids games?? |

That's true that it's the Philly inquierer.. but it's still horribly disturbing. The people of Philly have a HUGE advantage when it comes to voting. If you look at the map from the 2004 presidential election... PA was won by the democrats, but only the regions around Pittsburgh and Philly were blue. Those two cities have more power than the rest of the state.
Thank goodness that only really impacts national elections.. of course this could have a pretty big impact on whether or not Rick Santorum is re-elected. |

Unfortunately, it will have a great impact on whether or not Santorum is reelcted. The last thing we need is Bobby Casey in office. His father, even though not my personal preferance, was a man of honor. He never let the party run him instead he did what he felt was right. Bobby on the other hand seems to have no honor and certainly has no aspiration to complete a job. He hasn't finished a single term in office since he has run for a statewide position.

First, I would ask that you please do not edit my posts when you quote them. I don't care if it's a different color, it still looks like I wrote the modifications when I did not. Second, the coach did "invite" him to a fight. And, it was an invitation, it wasn't forced. If Derkotch wanted to be the better man, he would've walked away. Unfortunately, that wasn't going to happen, ESPECIALLY when he instigated it by heckling the coach. Third, all the news article said was that Derkotch was upset with the coach that his son wasn't playing. We don't know exactly what he said to the coach. However, if whatever was said made the coach "invite" him to a fight, I doubt he said "Coach let my kid play". That wouldn't send me over the edge; it would have to be whole lot worse. Last, we can debate the points of what happened all day. Fact of the matter is, Derkotch drew down on a man who was NOT threatening his life, after instigating the situation himself. Sorry, but that just doesn't sit well with me.
