Default Soapbox 2006

Why is it, with the loud voice from those who would restrict or do away with ownership of firearms, that we do not hear loud and clear that we should all, as Americans, take full advantage of our Second Amendment rights. Threats from crime and terrorism should tell us that we need to protect ourselves and our Country and be on guard. We have the NRA and groups like them, but I always wonder why "we the people" do not hear the rally cry that I believe we should be hearing. Ever see the home alarm commercial that has the family hiding in the bedroom when the thug breaks in? Mom should be getting the shotgun and the kids should be handing her the ammo to load, but we never hear that. It seems to me that self defense is our most basic right and so many people choose to ignore the danger we could face every day. I know the media and the libs are where they are, but outside of a few thousand permit holders per state and those who hunt and keep firearms, there should be more of a movement in the direction of the Second Amendment of our Constitution. I will yeild the floor, or soapbox...Mike45

I like the sentiment, but the bottom line is that the left wing and their allies in the media will, and have, immediately declare anyone espousing those views a "gun nut." To those of us in the know, that is not an issue and we really don't care what those folks on the left are saying. But to those who aren't aware of their rights, thank you public school systems, what they hear in the press and from the loud mouthed liberal pols makes them feel that they do not want to be part of "that group" of people. I wish it were different, unfortunately it isn't. The only way to change things is for those of us who are pro 2A to initiate people into the wonderful world of shooting sports and hope that they take off. So take a friend hunting or shooting and show them what it means to be a responsible firearms owner, that we aren't all mad.

I think the reason we dont stand up and be loud, is because on a personal level, we are afraid to have to give up some rights.

For example: A person who is legally aloud to carry in location X, despite location X's policies to which the person is subjected, will not likely be an outspoken voice against such policies as this action would result in the forcible eviction from the location X and removal of any benefits derived from the actors presence at location X, or voluntary disarmament on behalf of the actor as a premtive measurement to prevent such discontinuation of benefits.
