Bravo! Sir, I commend you for your stance on this issue, and wish other medical professionals would do the same.

On a side (read: off-topic) note, I have to say it's cool to see a thread I started a LONG time ago come back from the dead and get some newfound attention

Its redundant...but it hardly bugs me.
I feel the same way!

I haven't been asked that question yet, but every time I visit my doctor, they do ask me the following question: "Do you feel safe in your home?"

Tell them you have 100 guns, then when nothing bad happens it looks good for gun owners.

Unless I'm bringing in my kid for treatment of a gunshot wound, it ain't none of their business.

However, I'd be likely to say "ja, a phased plasma rifle in da fourty-watt range."

hes qualified to give medical advice, thats it.

I took my youngest kid to Dr off base today due to really high temp at daycare. The first time I had been asked about the guns in the house. I am used to lectures on smoking, and alcohol, and this and that and that.

Doc asked about guns in the house, while going down his checklist. I told him: I live halfway between Baltimore and DC. Does it really matter if I have a gun in my house?

He stopped, looked at me, and then went to the next question, think it was dogs or something.

Homie, when you start shooting 10K rounds a year, you start to worry about testicular health! Primers have lead too!

This organization lays out the whole approach. Link

http://www.doctorsagainsthandguninjury.org/

My response is: "I have a purpose for my visit, which I suppose I need to explain. I am here for your medical knowledge which is demonstrated by the MD after your name.

I don't go to the Oprah show or the Readers Digest for medical information and I don't go to a Medical Doctor for non medical information. Can we please stay within the purpose of my visit and the areas of your professional credentials, DOCTOR."

Doctors tend to think they know everything. Yes they are smart people as medical school is difficult, but they don't know everything and I am not necessarily interested in their opinions on non medical subjects. Again THERE IS A PURPOSE TO MY VISIT, SURPRISE, SURPRISE.
