Default 1911 detail strip clean

How often is a detailed-strip clean of a 1911 required? Thanks all.

Taking it all the way down....including trigger out.

Not very often, unless you get it wet.

I flush mine out with lighter fluid on occasion and then throw in a decent CLP.

Mine went 8000 rounds this year with that routine.

i too do the same thing and it works very well but with 36 1911's it takes awhile.

i use can of gunblast every few hundred rounds.
Take grip off, slide off, and good blast with nozzle does great job cleaning.

With normal use, I don't see the need to any more detail cleaning then that(other then clean barrel, extracter, fireing pin - u know, easy stuff)

I have a Kimber and I think the manual advises against the use of any aerosol gun cleaners... ?

I use a solvent bath, not Ed's Red, it's base is K-1 kerosene. Field stripped with an overnight soak gets the crud out and a good wipe down and brush and dry out the bore does pretty well. G.I .45 ammo cans make great baths.

Minimum detail strip for me is once a year. There was time when I'd do it every 2-3 months.

You haven't had fun until you've launched a mag catch spring across a room...and found it!
