Allowed Caliber
I would like to take my S&W 500 deer hunting. Is there any law against using a .50 for deer? I would probably use a 300 to 350 grain JHP bullet. It does one hell of a job on 1 gallon water jugs.

no problem... seeing how most muzzleloaders are 50cal or greater.

Nothing listed about maximum caliber.
The .500 S&W is a bear to shoot, make sure you practice.

These are the only requirements for a hunting rifle.
1. It is manually operated. 2. The cartridge is center-fire 3. The bullet is designed to expand If it meets those three criteria.. it's legal.
