Default Practice shooting at home????

Is there such a thing? I dont mean "live rounds" but are there any type of "fake" rounds that you can shoot at home for aiming practice? It would be nice not to have to go to a range and spend $80 just to pop rounds..

Have you looked into airsoft guns? Same weight, feel, just about everything as a real gun. Initial cost is the cost of the airsoft gun, ammo can be reused. Great for shooting indoors. Great for teaching people proper firearms handling, sight alignment, etc.

Otherwise, I have a 50 yard range in my backyard!

If you know some one who reloads you might look into rubber bullets and or wax bullets. Either or, they work with just the primer, no gun powder. Both are reusable, the rubber shot is bassically a 1/2 slug that you get an dput in a blank primer only shell, the wax one is very similar, some also use cardboard dipped in wax.

there are always these - http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=315781

From Wikipedia -

Speer plastic bullets, the only widely available brand, are hollow based plastic cylinders, and are available in .357/.38/9 mm, .44, and .45 calibers, and are designed for use in handguns, primarily revolvers, as the flat nose of the bullet does not feed well in most magazine fed actions. The propulsion is provided only by the primer, and the slow moving plastic bullets may be captured undamaged and reused numerous times if a suitable backstop is used. For use in revolvers, .38 Special and .44 Special versions also include plastic cases, which can be primed and de-primed by hand with minimal tools. For other calibers, standard brass cases are used.

You can improve your skills just buy dry firing. Get some snap-caps and practice your stance, sight alignment, grip, trigger pull and draw. I'd be leery of firing my gun loaded with rubber or plastic bullets, but that s just me. Also, your local ordinances may prohibit you from discharging a firearm in you borough/township.

Hawk,

I know that initially, this is not a cheap investment, but have you considered buying a .22 semi auto pistol? Usually around 300 with dirt cheap ammo. A great way to practice for pennies a shot.

Dry firing with snapcaps will work. You just need to make sure that you pay attention to your form.

In addition to Snap Caps, I found these...
http://dummunition.com/

I was hoping to find the one's I saw that consisted of a brass case, but were filled with a one-piece "rubbery-plastic" bullet that extended to fill the entire case, giving the firing pin something to hit in place of the primer. (I think TonyF, SteveD or 27hand showed them to us) They looked just like a FMJ bullet, except the "bullet" was a yellow, plasticy material.

If you reload, reload your empties with just a primer and these and you will be good to go. One word of advice though, drill out the primer hole so that it's a bit larger and don't crimp to hard around the rubber bullet. It won't cycle your semi-autos, but it's great practice for flinch as well as malfunction training. Here's the link...
