(Off-duty deputy used police-style AR-15 rifle to kill six, officials say.....)

I guess you better buy ARs and 30 round mags up now while you can.

Twenty-year-old sheriff's deputy Tyler Peterson went to an apartment where a group of high school students and recent graduates were watching movies and eating pizza early Sunday
so in other words drinking and having sex.

this is really sad though. what a terrible way to go out. i can't imagine the shame his family is experiencing or the grief the families of the victims are experiencing.

The thing that I really picked up on here was some headline I saw on MSN. "How did he get through the system." It is some magical invisible net's fault that this happened. What do people expect? You can't always (I'm guessing its way way less than always) know what people are like. You cant tell how someone is going to act when they actually get power. You don't know that someone is going to lose it when some girl leaves him. No one knows this stuff.

Its sad it is a tragedy, my heart goes out to those who have lost. Just don't look to blame some all seeing all knowing whatever because its the guy who did it's fault. Just his not the sheriff's department fault(unless he told someone he was gonna go crazy or something to that effect) or the gun or the bullets or his car or uniform or badge.

The other side of this is, he had training, he had a badge and yet he shot up people. So, should we ban police forces? Maybe take away THEIR guns? If he's supposed to keep me safe then who is going to keep me safe from him?

Maybe I'm just an overly defensive gun person.

I posted it, but it still hasn't been approved in the NEWS section. Mods never seem to approve anything i try and post there.

I've been somewhat surprised by the coverage. CNN hasn't mentioned "Assault Weapon" yet. MSNBC has several times. I'm not sure how they were supposed to know he'd go crazy.

So far I haven't seen anyone blame the shooter, so far it's been: his age, then the evil gun. Specifically "how did someone so young have access to so much firepower"

this is freakin horrible. one's first sympathies are for the murdered innocents. but i'll bang the drum for mental health care

what you have here is an acute mental health crisis acted out in the worst possible way. The guy was a cop and deputy, well-liked, by all appearances a young man of good character. You couldn't have predicted it--but he could have sought counseling for his troubles if anyone had ever said, hey, this is what you do when you have trouble. That route oughta be encouraged, not stigmatized.

He might have felt his life was over, but it shouldn't have been.

Crime of passion?

Just goes to show you, cops are human, and sometimes like the rest of us, do bad, bad things.

Such a sad story, all those kids...
