Default Teacher sues to carry gun.

Saw this and immediately thought of you guys... I have to agree with her. There are enough places law abiding citizens have been disarmed for criminal convenience.

Teacher Sues For Right To Carry Gun
Updated: 14:07, Thursday September 20, 2007

A teacher in the United States is taking legal action against her own education authority after it refused her the right to bring a gun into the classroom.

Not usually a classroom aidThe Oregon-based high school teacher, who has a licence to carry a concealed handgun, says she wants permission to carry the weapon for her own protection.

The case has gained attention in the US because it comes relatively soon after the worst high school shooting in history - the Virginia Tech massacre.

A student with mental health problems killed 32 people at the campus in April before turning one of his two handguns on himself.

The teacher has filed a lawsuit against the Medford school district in southwestern Oregon.

She wants to overturn the district's rule that prohibits teachers from bringing a weapon onto school grounds.

Some pro-gun advocates in the US have argued that teachers - and perhaps students - should be armed to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The Oregon Firearms Federation is paying for the teacher's legal bills.

"The right to protect yourself is natural, God-given and should not be taken away," said executive director Kevin Starrett.
