No kind of registration in PA. Welcome to freedom!

PA drivers license/PA id and that's it for purchase. Pass PICS and you're good to go!

I would also suggest applying for your LTCF at your county sheriffs office.

Again, welcome!
this is great...o.k to purchase in PA just a drivers license and pics check
now my question is do you have to have a LTCF in order to purchase or
is that just for carry purposes, and if you have multiple handguns does it matter which one you carry under the LTCF...It is going to take it awhile
for me to get used to this freedom,It's hard to comprehend when you are so used to registering and such..I already know what 2 purchases I am going to make when I come out...

The license to carry a firearm (LTCF) is irrelevant to purchase. Save for being able to borrow firearms from others willing to loan them to you, the purposes for the license to carry a firearm are solely for carrying in specific manners or places. The following post (to quote myself) details what the license to carry a firearm (LTCF) grants:

  • You may carry (in any manner) in a city of the first class (read, “Philadelphia”).
  • You may carry (in any manner) during a declared state of emergency.
  • You may carry (in any manner) in a Gun Free School Zone, which is anywhere within 1000 feet of a school. (The “school zone” around the school is different from the “school grounds” itself. Carrying on school grounds is arguably illegal regardless of having a license to carry a firearm.)
  • You may carry concealed in a State Park.
  • You may accept firearms that others temporarily give you on a loan/borrow basis. (Thanks, Philbert and fingers80002, for pointing out this omission.)
The license to carry a firearm does not in any way prohibit one from carrying in a way that does not require a license, and it covers much more than just concealed carry. This is why we like to point out that the ‘C’ in “LTCF” does not stand for “conceal.”

The license to carry a firearm (LTCF) is not linked to individual firearms. You can carry none or you can carry so many that you need a wheelbarrow to cart them around all on the same license.

Hello all,

My name is Josh, I currently live in southern Indiana but will be moving to the east side of Pittsburgh in mid August. I found this forum when I was searching for carry laws. You do things a little different than IN but it seems like in general it should be manageable.

I look forward to joining the PA gun community. My interests are hunting, fishing, USPSA shooting, and I've recently become interested in rimfire rifle matches and silhouette. Hopefully I can find some rifle matches in Westmoreland county.

Take care,
Josh

Welcome. I am interested in why you feel the difference "should be manageable".

Hi all. I just signed up and stopped in to say hello. I have owned a few handguns but finally broke down and picked up a AK-47(Yugo). My first rifle cant wait to get out and use it. I live in South Philly. I would greatly appreciate anyone having any information on Rifle(AK-47) friendly ranges as well as finding good ammo at reasonable prices. Man Trying to find ammo at decent prices is tough. Ok enough rambling thanks again.

Thanks for the welcome. I was checking the site out and I have to say wow. There is so much information on here and great posts and people actually talk to each like adults even when they disagree. I am glad I have found this site and hope that I can add some knowledge and insight and contribute to the boards. Again thanks for the invite what a great forum!

Hi People,
I wonder how many of you are handloaders. The cost and lack of availability of factory ammo makes it a necessity for me. I like to go to the range at least several times a month. Practice makes perfect and if a person is going to carry they should be profficent with their weapon because their life could depend on it. I just thought I would throw this out their to try to get a dialogue going. I do load for every caliber that I shoot. The cost of components for loading is getting pretty high but it is still cost efficent for me. Wot say you other members?

Lou
