Done. I will call Frankel personally as he is my local rep, and will visit his office in person as it is right down the street from me.

I sent the following email text to the entire list. Having grown up in California, these measures seem rather bland to me considering what has happened in my home state, so I can understand some feelings of "this won't happen", or "this is the only legislation".
THIS IS NOT THE CASE! I can tell you. Virtually my entire gun collection is now illegal in California! and you can rest assured that PA will follow California if things like this get into law. We never ever thought the semi ugly duckling rifle ban would pass in CA - yet it did! and expanded! In any case, this is the text of what I wrote: 'House Bill 18, sponsored by State Representative Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia), House Bill 22: "one-gun-a-month" legislation, sponsored by State Representative John Myers (D-Philadelphia) House Bill 29: "Lost or Stolen Firearms” legislation, sponsored by State Representative Jewell Williams (D-Philadelphia), would make it a crime to fail to report the loss or theft of a firearm to police within 24 hours of discovering the firearm missing. Please vote NO on these bills as they constitute a serious infringement on my personal right to own a firearm, and are totally and completely 'feel good' measures that will have zero impact on crime in Pennsylvania. The solution to crime issues is to actively prosecute criminals instead of creating ineffective beaurocracy and villification of law abiding gun owners. I vote and I remember, and most importantly, I am influential and trusted by a great many people and you can guarantee if these nonsense measures go anywhere my friends will know who to vote out of office. As legislators, you work for the voter (me) not political special interests who disregard the constitution, crime victims, and law abiding citizens. Thank You for Your Consideration in this email. Please govern our great state by eliminating, rather than perpetuating these wasteful, needless, feel good proposals. God Bless America,

i sent this to everyone on the list and then some. i am no letter writer but i think the point comes across.
It is my understanding that Governor Rendell plans to take an unprecedented step and personally attend Tuesday’s PA House Judiciary Committee meeting to attack gun owners and our constitutional freedoms by forcing bad legislation (HB 18, HB 22, and HB 29) out of committee. This is another attempt to regulate the honest man out of his right to own and use firearms to protect himself. this is done under the guise of "if we take the guns away the crime rate will go down". i believe there is adequate proof to the contrary. every time a country or state limits the use of firearms the crime rate does indeed not go down. i believe that there are many laws on the books that are designed to curtail crime. It seems that the laws are not being used as they were designed. if you kill someone you can get a life sentence and be out in 5 years. if you commit a crime with a gun it is a mandatory 5 year sentence above any other charges. these laws are just not being enforced. Yet it makes more sense to make more laws "that will only hurt the honest man" that will fall to the way side as others in the past. If a criminal wants to procure a firearm he or she will not be going through the channels that the honest man will be using. he will be going down to the street corner and buy whatever he or she needs, no paper work no instant check no carry permit. Than he or she will be hunting for the honest people that the assembly of lawmakers has put out on the streets unable to protect themselves from the bad guys. In the future please keep in mind that I will be counted as one of the voters who can not and will not vote for any politician who votes to reduce my rights to protect what is mine. thank you |

I don't know what are this person represents but she needs to be kept in office. I'm not even one of her constituents and I received the following from her.

Sent an email to everyone on the list. This is ridiculous as always. I think Ed should stick to football.

I have received great written replies from both Rep Beverly Mackereth and Rep John Pallone.
I must admit both replies were quite informed and educated with regard to these bills. My Hat is off to both fine Representatives.

I think we should gather a list of those who have responded thus far and send a follow up letter on Wednesday thanking them for standing up for the constitution.
It's a nice gesture..... ~B You post the names, I'll send them off.

I can imagine that being a legislator is probably a very thankless job so let's leave a good impression!
