I've been busting my hump all morning so I didn't have time to call yet. I did type up a letter and faxed it individually to everyone on that list. I also picked up some software that should (in theory) allow me to schedule a fax for each day so my goal is to have a few different letters automatically fax for me so I don't have to worry about it and can focus on making calls. (gotta Love OS X)

Does anyone happen to have, or have a link of all the representative's information that can be imported into my address book? It would make this process a heck of a lot easier.

This is what happens with a Democrat governor, especially when he panders to urban interests which view firearms as the causitive factor in urban violence instead of socio-economic conditions in such an environment which are never addressed in these discussions due to political correctness.

The problem isn't guns. The problem is one parent families or no parent families, lack of discipline and respect taught to youths by their elders, and a social disinclination to hold people responsible for anti-social behavior instead of inanimate objects.

No surprise these bills came out of the minds of Philly politicians.

I called every number on the list. The feedback I got was good. Those who had a few moments to talk to me said that they were getting a LOT fo calls, and the vast majority of them were on opposition to those bills. It was a refreshing experience to say the least. It took me about 45 minutes to call, but I'm a talker. If you get straight to the point and don't chat, you'll be able to do it quicker than I did. An email would be quicker if you write it once and bcc it to all addresses listed, but I'd rather have the telephone contact to get a feel for how well received my message is, and in this case I think a phone call is going to have a lot more impact than email, after all, it's too easy to send multiple email messages "Spam style", and the recipient is more likely to ignore or delete without getting the message.
I started with the ones listed as pro 2A for practice and worked my way to the ones listed as "dedicated Anti 2nd Amendment Fanatics ". When I got to the "anti" group, I engaged in conversation with those who had time to talk to me and told them that I would be in favor of legislation that would specifically target criminals, especially gangs and drug dealers, rather than the tools they choose to use. Granted, I was talking to the receptionists, but they did give me a chance to say my piece and they said they were making note of my comments to pass along to the representative. Some may have been feeding me BS, some may have been sincere. BS or not, I feel better about it.
If you don't have time to call all of them, at least take the time to call a few who are uncommitted or anti.
My voice is small, your voice is small, but our collective voice is big.
This is important and together we can make a difference.

Dan - Thank you again for the notice. I also got a call from the NRA so it's nice to see everyone mobilizing. I've sent all my emails and called all of the uncommitted and "anti-gun" representatives.
Just to let you know - Bernie O'Neill's office was adamant that he is against these bills and will vote against them. I called and my wife called on a different number and we both got the same story.

On the same note, Representatives Marisco, Petrarca, Mackereth, Rock, and True all gave me the message that they were strongly opposed to the bills.
Every voice need to be heard before the vote on Tuesday.
Governor Rendell is going to be there in person to promote his agenda, we need to make sure that our representatives know that WE are the government, and he is just a figure head. He is an individual too, and his opinion is as important as ours, but not more important than ours. We are the people. The Government is "We the people".

And please be polite and courteous, that will convey a strong message.

I sent the following e-mail to the committee members:

Dear Representative ( name ),

Please oppose HB 18, HB 22 and HB 29. These bills would penalize and harm law abiding citizens of Pennsylvania who choose to own and carry firearms for lawful purposes. The bills would do nothing to reduce crime, as criminals already ignore numerous federal and State laws regulating the sale, possession and use of firearms.

HB 18 would allow municipalities to adopt laws that would deny possession of firearms by those who are most vulnerable to violent crime and would lead to a myriad of local firearms laws making compliance impossible for law abiding gun owners.

HB 22, the “one gun a month” bill would harm only law abiding gun owners as laws already exist to prevent straw purchases and regulate the sale of handguns.

Finally, HB 29 would criminalize law abiding gun owners who are victims of crime, and defies common sense.

As a senior citizen and a disabled veteran, one of the reasons I chose to live in this great state is the fact that Pennsylvania laws recognize the importance of our second amendment right to defend ourselves. I beg you to protect that right on my behalf and on the behalf of all your constituents.

While I am appalled at the inability of the City of Philadelphia to protect its residents against crime, that failure should not be allowed to diminish the rights of the citizens of the State, especially those that are guaranteed by both the Pennsylvania and United States constitutions.

Please consider that rational and thoughtful voters will understand the difference between legislation that really defends our rights and so-called “feel-good” legislation, based on emotional appeals rather than facts, with real potential for harm to the public.

Sincerely,
