I was shooting a few weeks ago with my 7mm mag. I shot a total of 25 rds. I was shooting pretty slow but not waiting for the gun to cool. You could see heat coming off the barrel. A guy next to me that used to be a "sniper" told me I was going to warp my barrel and destroy my rifle. I thought this was a bunch of crap but I thought I would ask anyway. I've shot at least 100 rds through my AR10 some slow some rapid fire and the gun has no issues, I don't see how 25 rds through my 7 mag is going to ruin the gun.

I have a 7 mag that has never really been that accurate. Maybe 2in groups at 100 yrds with various types of ammo. I tried running a piece of paper between the stock and the barrel and I couldn't make it 1 inch. I started sanding the stock and I got it so I can pass a piece of paper half way down the stock. After doing this I read that Remington intentionally has the stock contact the barrel for support. Did I just screw up? I guess I should shoot it before doing anymore sanding. Anyone have experience trying to free float a Rem 700?

Hi, all.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what would be the ideal aromorer's course for the 1911A1. I see that Sig offers a course, which seems interesting, and I'd like to do this in conjuction with reading the Kuhnhausen(sp?) books, and AGI DVD's. The Sig Armorer's course, which covers the other pistols is being offered right near my residence in February. If anyone has taken that course as well, please provide your input.

Many thanks,

J.T.

Rookie here, and had a question about a problem that just started today when I took my Llama 45 to the range. Its a 30+ year old in perfect shape and functions great - until today. After every few shots, the safety slides up and I then have to disengage it. Around the same time, the slide fails to lock open after the last round. My guess is that long "spring" between the catch and the safety maybe worn ? Am I on the right track - lol.

Thanks

I'm interested in knowing about principles of operations when it comes to firearms.

I don't know how better to explain what I am looking for than using a car analogy; I'm not interested in learning about the makes or models of cars (that info is easily available), I want to understand how the engine works and the different types.

For example, striker fired pistols as opposed to hammer operated pistols, etc.

Anyone know of any good sites and/or books?

Thanks in advance!

I was cleaning up after a trip to the range, I noticed that my the cam pin(in my AR) had suffered a new kind of wear. It seemed that a crack had developed around the lower third portion of the Cam Pin's body. It seemed that it followed the contours of the inside of the carrier. Just above the firing-pin hole going down on the sides, and then up and over the hole on the other side. I asked around and got several opinions. After calling the mfgr. I was pointed to the obvious. I had just installed a one-piece gas ring set. About two weeks before that I installed an Endine Hydraulic buffer. Has any one else experiencd bazzar Cam-Pin wear? Yeah I know. If it works.... I was trying to bullet-proof my AR. I've had several ARs in the military, but I've never seen anything like this! The origonal Cam-Pin(upper) has over a thousand rounds on it. The replacement(lower) had only 2-3 hunderd.(please excuse. my camara dissapeared, and I tried using the scanner) I tried putting my old gas rings in, but they now gave too much drag. I'm on my third now Cam Pin. Seems that the damage is diminishing. Any ideas? Thank you ahead of time.....

So, I bought a Smith and Wesson M&P40 a while back, and I'm a little mixed, even now, as to how I feel about it. For me, it's been an accurate gun. In slow, concentrated shooting, I can manage grouping of 2-3 inches from 15 yards. I'm not sure how that really compares to your collective experiences, but for me, that seems pretty damn good.

The only issue (if it can even be called that) is the trigger pull on the gun. There is so much force needed to actually get the trigger "over the hump" as I call it, that makes me invariably push or pull on the trigger, obviously leading to 3-oclock and 9 o-clock inaccuracy. I ran a few IDPA drills to see how it would work under fast fire, and I wound up doing worse than with my Taurus PT111 Mil Pro.

I talked to Rich at Gander in Dickson, and he suggested a S&W Performance Trigger job or something along those lines (lower trigger resistance, shorten trigger reset, and something else..). Anyone have any info on how much of an improvement this will yield, how much it costs, and if it's actually worth it in the end? If anyone can think of a procedure that a gunsmith could perform to lighten the trigger (as well as a trusted gunsmith, heh) as an alternative to sending it back to S&W, I'd be pretty appreciative. Thanks!
