Here are some videos of the new Bushmaster ACR in action.

I sighted in a scope I used to use on my AR and had some fun in the last video. All in all I am very pleased with it so far. Not a single hang up and all the mags I tried fed without a hitch. The only thing I will do is probably adjust the shell deflector because they were throwing them at about 5 o'clock. By buddy shot it and he is a lefty and the casings were hitting him in the forehead lol! The trigger was crisp and clean without too much pull to drop the hammer. The controls are nothing new if you are used to an AR platform with the exception of the bolt release. Working the bolt release feels natural. The one thing that is surely different is that you don’t hear the buffer spring when you fire unlike the AR which surprised me how much I noticed it when I traded guns with my friend at the range for some trigger time. The recoil is almost non existent and closely compares to the AR. When comparing recoil with the piston operated ACR to the DI AR-15's, they are pretty much identical. One thing I surely noticed was all the heat was up front and not in the chamber. This was to be expected from a piston operated rifle though. The heat, even after blowing trough a hundred rounds was all contained safely on the inside of the front of the gun. It is a free float barrel and there is a heat shield inside the hand guard that made it quite comfortable to handle even after lots of shooting. All of my AR mags that I had left over still work in the ACR like I said and I am very pleased to say the least. Now, time to clean my baby...:p

Anyone own a Rossi matched set rifle? I'm thinking about getting the kids a couple matched set, single shot rifles for Xmas...just looking for some suggestions and reviews. I'm thinking about these combinations...

12ga
.270
.50 cal muzzle loader

.17hmr
.50 cal muzzle loader
.243

Bad thing is that I would probably need an extra .17hmr and 12ga barrel so they hunt squirrels and turkey at the same time. Although, we probably wont ever hunt muzzle loader so I could probably do with one .50 barrel.

Advice for building a Fighting Bolt Action Gun

I want to build something different yet practical.I want .308 (unless a better round is presented). Be able to hit targets from CQB out to 400 meters.
This will be an all purpose bolt. It will not be used for door kicking but may be used in close defense. More then not it will be a medium range all purpose gun for SHTF.
.308 is milspec and is a common surplus / available round. Many platforms are set up for it.
Everybody has been building AR15/10 platforms and I thought I would like to build a Kick ass Bolt gun as a backup/ semi secure future band gun.
Remigton 700series has the most options & Savage seems to be in the run.
What about others like Sako and TC.
I do not want long range. Just kick arse medium range and I do not want to waste money on a platform that will never shoot @ 600 plus yards.
90% of the time it will shoot 300yds or less.
TIA

1) You can take apart an SKS and clean in less than 10 minutes... Blindfolded...

2) Whenever you play Laser Tag with your brothers you name yourself "Sergei Simonov" or "Mikhail Kalashnikov".

3) You laugh at how stupid SKS rifles look without the bayonet.

4) You name your Romanian AK "Timofeyevich".

5) You take off price tags on your other rifles that you just bought with the AK's Bayonet WHILE it's on the AK.

6) You love how ugly it looks.

7) You think it's fun when you shoot your SKS fast, to see all of the smoke come out of the reciever.

8) You hate it when you try to take off the upper handguard, because the lever is so damn hard to pull up.

9) You lose around 3 SKS stripper clips each time you go shooting.

10) Whenever an SKS is over $300 dollars, you really have to consider if it is too exspensive.

WOW is it nice, they come with Troy battle sights, a hogue grip, 3 P-Mags, qaud rail, soft case, very nice package. The range was PACKED ! I was hoping more people would be at labor day picnics or doing family stuff but no such luck. The gun ran great, 100%. All in all was a pretty good trip. Oh yeah except for the girl at the other end of the range who starts shooting her pistol after everyone yelled ALL CLEAR and a couple guys start walking down range. Holy shit man, are you trying to kill someone. New shooter or not people have to pay the hell attention.(the girl) I say that because she didnt look very experienced, I know I shouldnt judge by looks but, her actions pretty much summed it up though.

I recently ordered a Springfield scout/squad M1A. I will be picking it up this week. I plan on shooting with the irons to start but would then like to put the scout concept to use. I really would like to put a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x scope but am concerned about the eye relief.

I measured the distance between the scout rail and my eye with a proper cheek weld. The distance was about 14". Also, I should consider that when I mount the scope the eyepiece will be closer to my eye as well.

I looked at the Accupoint model mentioned above and at 14" the eye relief was not great but seemed acceptable.

Am I forgetting something? Does anyone have experience with this type of set up? Thank you for any information you can share.

and have a few questions (again).

Thanks to those that pointed me in the direction of the LaRue scope mount. It mounted easily, but I had to use one of my 3-9 scopes while I wait to get the Leupold that I want.

Along with the mount, I ordered the ballistics book on their site (Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting by Bryan Litz) and am about half way through it. Does anyone have any experience with this book? It seems to be very good, but I don't know enough yet to make an informed judgment.

Here is a link (I hope) to a youtube post of the author describing the book.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ghi-U6VvvII

Also, I'm wondering about ammunition selection. I thought I'd start working with the Wolf ammunition I have (I know, I know about Wolf ammunition and how some people feel about it) to get the analysis and mechanics down before I start burning high priced ammo. I am sure there is quite a bit of variability in Wolf's performance, but the biggest source of variability in my shooting set up, at least at this stage, is usually the nut pulling the trigger.

Does anyone know where the ballistic data for their bullets might be found? I checked their web site, and googled a bunch of different things, but couldn't find anything.

And I bought this guy's software for my Android. Started putting some gun and ammunition data into it, but haven't used it at the range yet.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Best Underfolder AK for +/- $500?

OK, so I have read a lot online, and searched a fair bit looking for answers (including the sticky up top here), but a lot of what I found on the web seemed to be either from the AWB days, or from the prime time Obama scare days...

I'm looking to buy my first "serious" rifle, and have decided that for my purposes, an AK variant would be the logical choice (key features being reliability, durability, ease of maintenance - Not so much precision).

This will serve as a range toy, as well as a theoretical SHTF rifle. I think I want an under-folder (buy side-folder would be OK), chambered in either 7.62 or 5.45.

I am looking for AK-savvy guys who are familiar with what ~$500 will get you in today's market. I know that's not enough to get a top-tier Arsenal, but it's also more than a Romanian WASR seems to cost these days. Can I get a Bulgarian under-folder in this general price range (they seem to be more highly recommend than the Romanian WASR)?

I would maybe be willing to look into the WASR, but I like ordering from the best priced vendor, which means I likely wouldn't be able to physically inspect the rifle before purchasing (that seems to be a necessity when buying a WASR), unless someone can recommend a credible and trustworthy fun shop in S.E. PA w/ a good AK selection.

I'm not trying to open a can of worms here, but rather just seeking more current info on what some of you would consider a "safe bet" on an entry-level AK.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
