Well, it looks like I am going to officially replace the last piece of Lyman equipment on my bench tomorrow (other than a turret press). I cannot say enough bad things about Lyman. I started off with a lyman kit and have slowly replaced everything that lyman makes with something from another manufacturer because the Lyman product either broke or didn't work correctly to begin with. The last thing left on my bench other than a press, which I've had problems with that as well, is the case trimmer. I ordered a power adapter for it from midway so I can attach my drill intead of hand cranking it. First thing I noticed once I got the power adapter in: it was slightly bent. Typical Lyman. I have come to expect this from them, so I was not surprised. I was still able to use it, as it was only slightly bent. Well about 200 cases in, out of 1000, the retaining cams on the chuckhead assembly stopped holding the cases. So, now I'm 200 cases in, 800 to go and I'm stuck. Tomorrow I'm going to replace that completely... I may even pick up a new turret or single stage press to replace the Lyman - out of principle. The only thing from Lyman I can say anything good about is their reloading manual. I'm going to bed.

i am shooting a ruger m77 mk11 compact in 243 win for coyote hunting. i load 42 grains of h4350 behind a 95 grain nosler balistic tip.i can put 3 shots inside of a 2 inch circle at 100 yards with this load and rifle. was wanting to pull shots tighter but not quite sure how slow i can slow down the charge and still be effective with this load.this load was originally loaded for a rem798 with a 22in barrel. the ruger has a 16.5 in thin whippy little barrel. so i am guessing the load is to hot for a short barrel.i understand that a rifle such as this not a tackdriver but i think it can do better than this.

Well, i'm still waiting on my .45 colt die, and i cant find any .45 colt ammo local to buy, so i de-primed 6 rounds of brass and re-primed them, and just loaded in a wax "bullet" (pressed the casing into a soft wax candle till it was half full). At about 7 yards they shot real well, but i found it interesting, when i primed the brass the primer was slightly lower the the face of the casing, but after i fired it, the primer kind pushed back and stuck out just a little bit (enough to bind up my ruger vaquero).
Does anyone know why that would be? Also, would shooting a lot of wax out of my revolver damage it in any way? Anything i should do or look for?

Thanks!

I'm a licensed Firearm carrier from the state of CT. Getting tired of playing "the ammo hunt" for rounds every time I want to go "play". I've made the decision to start reloading. After months of reading I starting gathering equipment. I'm just unsure where I get the specs for the rounds i'm trying to load. I figured it would all depend on what I want to load, meaning the type of bullets I purchase. I have a Glock .357 Sig, S&W 357 mag Hammer less revolver and I'm saving my pennies for a desert eagle .50 ( I know it's a BIG, expensive gun to shoot and it's too large to carry, but I want one).

I need a good reference for spec all of them. Can someone point me in the right direction.

I'm also stuck on which press to by (as long as it's under $400). Should I buy a "do it all" press. Or are some parts of the reloading process better to do by hand??

Thanks,

I raised a question about steel cased ammo as part of this thread (http://forum.pafoa.org/general-2/78995-cabelas-20-off-ammo-sale.html), but so far...

I raised a question about steel cased ammo as part of this thread, but so far haven't gotten any responses.

Hopefully, I can rephrase the 7.62x39 specific part of the question more narrowly here in the ammo forum.

Is Ulyanovsk ammo essentially interchangeable with Wolf ammo as a practical matter or does Ulyanovsk have distinguishing characteristics unto itself (for better or worse)? Dirty ammo doesn't bother me so much, but inaccurate ammo seems pointless.

Secondly, if I can get Ulyanovsk for $0.21/round, is there any advantage to paying $0.25/round for Wolf (a 19% premium)?

In other words, if Wolf is better than Ulyanovsk, is it really that much better?

I have some 60 grain bullets (originally for reloading 25-20 winchester) that I want to try and load for use in my 25-06.

Now I know if I bring the MV up too high they may spin apart, but I'd like to play around with them to see if I can develop some sort of load.

My goal is to attempt to develop either a light small game load, or (if the bullets permit) a flat shooting varmint load.

The only problem is that all the loading data I have (admittedly, I don't have ALL the loading manuals there are, LOL) are lacking in load data for anything less than a a 75 grain projectile.
-
I did search the PAFOA archives and found nothing...likewise, searching the web brought me no data.

I am sure I can't be the first person to think of shooting a lightweight projectile in this caliber.

Any thoughts, pointers to a web site I may have overlooked, or personal experiences, both good and bad, would be appreciated.

Right now I don't have a good starting point for load development.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to share the benefit of your respective experiences.
Cheers,
At Gander Mt., the slugs are marked down from $3.50/box to $1.50  after mail in rebate. I did have to ask for the rebate form though, and there is a 5 box/household limit.
obvious surplus, I talked the girl who was working in the area to let me look the case over as well as a loose box being sold, the case itself is faintly stamped '82 and the headstamp on the brass is:
O O
82

Did some searching on google and it looks like it's S&B production and according to one result (on arfcom) it's Berdan primed and corrosive...go figure :(

But figured I'd post it in case anyone is interested
