When we talk about a "good belt" does this mean a belt that is not too loose? Is this a belt that should be thicker or thinner?

Note from a friend and Instructor:

"I recently was introduced to a 70ish year old gentleman at a retirement community in Florida who was supposedly a "firearms instructor".
He told me he was a life member of the NRA and had been an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor for years. He had migrated to South Florida from Long Island, NY.

He stated that for 40 years as a businessman in Long Island and NYC, he held a gun permit and that he had carried a gun since he dealt with large amounts of cash in his business.

He told me that he had become an instructor years ago and that he had conducted Basic Pistol and Personal Protection classes for years.
When I asked him what he carried, he told me that, when he did carry, 'these days", he carried a North American Arms .22LR mini-revolver. I asked him if he believed that this was a viable carry gun and he responded that it was all he believed he needed for close quarters. He stated that if he needed a gun it would only be in a close quarters situation and that 'several.22's in the face would surely do the job. No sense in overkill'. This gentlemen also stated that he taught some classes for helping senior citizens in South Florida obtain their carry permits!

Unsurprisingly, he had voted for Obama, stating that 'reasonable, common sense gun laws' were not objectionable to him and that the gun culture had gone to far. He stated that he disagreed with the NRA's 'agressive agenda'. Heaven forbid if I had asked him to comment on GOA, or JPOFO, or the USCCA!

Carrying when you feel like it, is like saying that you have the power to predict when you will be faced with imminent deadly peril. Limiting your 'firepower' to five rounds in a handgun that can only be counted on at 4 feet and in, and that cannot be reloaded in an emergency, is asking good 'ol Murphy to just stay out of your life. It is truly delusional. This gentleman was also smug about his beliefs. He may never be faced with imminent deadly peril, but if he is, he and his wife will have to be extremely lucky to get through the incident.

What to do when a grown man has a bizarre violent outburst

I have a question about self defense and intervening to help another person being assaulted. I have not gotten to the Sheriff's office yet to turn in...

I have a question about self defense and intervening to help another person being assaulted. I have not gotten to the Sheriff's office yet to turn in my LTCF application nor have I bought my gun, but after what I witnessed earlier today I'm seriously going to try to get the LTCF and the gun ASAP. My mom disputes what the best way to handle the situation is had I been carrying. But then again, she always thinks of a way to say that anything I tell her about it a bad or dangerous idea.

Anyway, here's what happened. I had just finished shopping at BJ's and when I walked out the door with my cart, there was a woman sitting with her car running in the fire lane, about to pull away. In order to do so, she had to back up slightly because of the cars in front of her. As she was very slowly backing up, a man walking up to the store walked right behind her despite the fact that he could have easily moved a few feet from her car as there was nothing behind her. Well, the man started pounding on the car trunk with his fists to get her to stop. Even though he should not have been walking so close to a car backing up, she stopped before her car even touched him. I thought nothing of the man's behavior as I would have done the same thing to get the driver's attention had I been stupid enough to put myself behind a car that is backing up in the first place. But the man began throwing a frightening temper tantrum. He started repeatedly kicking her car on the passenger side as hard as he could literally as hard as he could. While he was doing so, he was repeatedly screaming the word bitch and dropping the f-bomb more times then I can count. I had stopped to watch him and I was standing about 15 feet away from the lunatic. She managed to pull away and that seems to be the only reason his violence didn't continue to escalate. He then walked into the store. In the meantime,

I was waiting for my cell phone to come on and debating whether it would be appropriate to call 911. I had never seen such a thing before and was pretty shook up. Another woman walked up to me and we discussed what happened. The woman said she thought she may have seen the lady stop in the parking lot, possibly to call the police. Ultimately I didn't call 911, and when I went to see if the woman had pulled over somewhere near BJ's I couldn't find her car. I usually can tell the make and model of a car very easily but all I can say is she was in a tan sedan. It was also somewhat dark as the sun was almost set. I decided that I'd wait ten minutes hoping the woman called the police and they would show up soon. I would have given a statement as a witness and pointed the guy out (who was still in the store). The police never came, but the psychotic guy came out and got into his car in the parking lot. I drove by and read his license plate and constantly repeated it in my head until I could pull into another parking space and jot it down.

My question is, what should I have done had I been armed? I think it would be wise not to approach the guy, but I would tell him to stop and let him know that I'm witnessing his violent illegal outburst and will be happy to talk to the cops. If he came toward me, I would retreat a few steps and warn him to stop. If he did not, I would pull my gun on him and re-warn him to stop. At this point, the cops will be on their way. This guy was insane though so I may have ended up shooting him had he left me no choice and I do not want to shoot anybody. I'm a peaceful and compassionate person and I don't know if I could pull the trigger. What do you think? What would you have done in such a bizarre situation. I need to expedite getting my gun and LTCF so if a nut job like this ever attacks me, I will be prepared to defend myself. I feel that I would have had an obligation to try to stop what was going on if I had been carrying a gun. I'm not trying to be superman, but from this guy's behavior, I didn't see what was holding him back from physically assaulting her. Thanks for your input and sorry for the length.

In the winter months I wear a hoodie (not the zip up kind) every single day and i'm looking for a rig that i can use to conceal my XDm with under the hoodie. I want to go OWB with this as the IWB option is just too uncomfortable. Based on my research here is what I have determined I am looking for:

- OWB leather "pancake" style holster
- Gun must be held rather high and tight to the body
- Must be under $100
- It can be any color, as long as it's black

So far the best option I have found is the Bodyguard by DM Bullard. http://www.dmbullardleather.com/1429711.html

I have heard nothing but great things about the Dual Carry, yet nothing at all about the Bodyguard. Anyone with experience with one of these?

Any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks

While I was at one today, a guy from the gas company was doing maintainence on the furnace and water heater.
I helped him with something in the basement and we both came up to the first floor together, he told the homeowner what he did, I told her what I did and will be back to finish tomorrow.
Then the gas guy said, "So, you carry a gun?" in front of the little old lady that owns the house. I normally keep it covered pretty well and didn't notice it showing.
The lady said, "Oh my!" Just as the gas guy said, "So do I."
Then she looked at him with a surprised look.
Anyway, the gas guy has a LTCF but didn't know that OC was legal here. So I talked to them for about a half hour explaining some laws. I wish I had a pamphlet.
I was really amused that the little old lady had so many questions.
When she left she said, "It was very nice meeting you and very intresting learning about your guns."

I am enrolled in a popular "business" class for personal improvement. The class is held at various locations around town one night a week. None of the locations are federal buildings or primary/secondary education buildings and none of them are posted. I have been in the class for about 9 weeks now. This past class I was pulled aside by the instructor and was told that a group of individuals noticed i was carrying a weapon, and asked that I do not carry it again. In an effort to not make a scene and make everyone happy I agreed. As I sat in class, the more I thought about it the more it bothered me. To the point where I walked out of the middle of the class due to the fact I was really pissed off. Now I feel awkward because I am not carrying (and am so used to). But on the same token I am no the type of person to purposefully cause a problem for people.
I think i would have felt a lot better if the "group" of concerned people approached me directly instead of going to the instructor.

I may be taking a trip to Arkansas in Later March to early April of next year with my girlfriend to visit her family.

We plan on going via Grey Hound bus. Is it possible for me to legally bring my gun (either on my person or locked away) on the bus? Is it against Grey Hound's policies. Do they screen baggage? Do they use metal detectors? I've never ridden on a bus across the country.

Also, I checked and it appears Arkansas is a reciprocal state. Is this current? Are there any differences between CC in PA and AR (bars or any other notable exceptions)?

Any personal experiences CCing in Arkansas?

Any and all information would be incredibly helpful! Thank you in advance!

Originally I pick up a Smith and Wesson Sigma (9mm semi) thinking I could carry with it. That was bad +$350 joke. That thing's a box. Then I picked up an Iver Johnson 32ACP revolver that actually fires 3 out 5 trigger pulls (click, click, boom)... It conceals, but man that thing's a piece of junk.

I need a thinner framed semi-auto, in 9mm, 38spl, or 45. I don't need a high cap mag. I need to fit my hand around it--I've got smaller hands. Any suggestions?

No caliber wars, please. No 380s--I want a 9 No revolver suggestions--I know exactly what revolver to get already.
