If you are like me you spend a lot of time driving and commuting, often through neighborhoods which are less than safe. Most shooters practice on the range, but very few ever get the chance to train from a vehicle.

Now is your chance. George Matheis teaches simple, effective techniques using a principal-based training approach. George shows his students WHY and HOW the techniques work every step of the way.

This is a specialized defensive handgun course that will instill a level of defensive ability that will enable you to successfully handle nearly any personal protection situation. This is a fast-paced defensive shooting course. It is designed to prepare the responsible adult gun owner to survive a lethal encounter.

YOU WILL NEED: A serviceable duty handgun chambered for .380 Auto or larger and 800 rounds of service ammunition. You will also need your concealment holster, ammunition carriers, etc. Also mandatory is hearing, eye protection, and a baseball cap. Shatterproof prescription eyeglasses, shooting glasses, or safety glasses will suffice for eye protection. Hearing protection may take the form of ear plugs or covers. On the range, all pistols are carried concealed.

SUBJECTS: Firearms safety, safe gun handling and preventable firearms accidents, handgun operation with particular attention to the autoloaders, mental alertness, situation awareness, danger avoidance, mental preparation, discretionary shooting, performing under stress, target scanning and quick identification, practical defensive marksmanship, and handgun retention. Classroom subjects will include the latest information on the physio/psychological aspects of lethal encounters, post-shooting trauma, ammunition performance in actual shooting, weapon selection criteria.

INSTRUCTORS:

John S. Farnam is considered the top handgun instructor in the nation. Class Time: 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. We provide a “one-stop shop” for law-abiding gun owners to do all the paperwork needed to apply for a Florida and Virginia Non-resident CCW in three to four hours. We supply all the necessary services in one place, at one time, so that you do not have to run around.

We provide the application packets and assist you in completing the application forms, we provide passport photos, a fingerprinting service, notarization, and the necessary handgun safety concealed carry class which includes the live fire qualification required. After class completion, you receive a Certificate of Firearms Safety Training which is required to be included in your application packet.

NOTE: If you are prior military or active duty you do not need to take the safety class, and the fee is $100. for all the paperwork. You will need to include in your application packets, a photocopy of your military honorable discharge document, a photocopy of your DD-214, or a copy of your Military I.D. Also, if you have a certificate of completion of any firearms course offered by an NRA Certified or Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, that will also suffice. This program is intended to assist honest gun owners in exercising their rights, by making Florida and Virginia non-resident carry permits readily available to all law abiding citizens, including New Jersey, New York and Maryland residents, whose own state governments deny them the right to carry firearms for personal protection.

Because the Florida carry permit is widely honored and respected through reciprocity agreements with other states, holders of the Florida non-resident permit will be licensed to carry throughout 30 states (excluding New Jersey, New York and Maryland). Even residents of other states like PA who have their own CCWs benefit from Florida's broad protections.

To be eligible you must:

Ken Hackathorn 2-Day Advanced Handgun - March 20-21, 2010 - Fayetteville, NC.

**Only for Students who have attended previous defensive pistol training programs. Note: this is not a new or beginners’ level training program. Students should already have an acceptable level of gun handling and marksmanship skills.**

Day One:
- Introduction, followed by a lecture on tactical mental applications, legal aspects, and equipment selection.
- Late morning range drills and review of the ‘key’ advanced shooting principles.
- Lunch for 45 minutes
- Return to range for advanced approach to pistol presentation, follow through, and scanning. Turns, pivots, emergency reloads, and multiple targets. Intro to shooting on the move, and related skill drills.
- Break for Dinner until dusk, then low- light firing techniques, with flashlight and without.

Day Two:
- Resume training with continued range sessions to include review, strong and weak hand drills, point shooting, distance/long range, corner drill, skill drills, and evaluation skill drills.

Vickers Tactical Level-1 Pistol / Carbine Class – April 2-4, 2010 – Moyock, NC.

Topics covered include handgun safety, stance, zeroing sights, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their handgun includes field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that is covered includes reloads, presentation, strong side & weak side shooting, shooting positions, use of cover, and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Malfunction drills and shooting on the move. Timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level.

Weapon & Gear Class Requirements:

Carbine:
- Serviceable duty grade carbine of minimum 5.45 / 5.56 caliber
- Serviceable sling (tactical type preferred.)
- Minimum of 5 serviceable carbine magazines
- Carbine mounted white light
- Optics – (Optional, but highly suggested)
- Minimum 1 carbine magazine pouch - or method to carry at least two spares magazine(s)

Handgun:
- Serviceable duty grade handgun of at least 9mm Para caliber
- Minimum of 5 serviceable pistol magazines
- Serviceable holster
- Minimum 2 pistol magazine pouches
- Handgun mounted white light (Optional)
- Visible lasers (Optional)

MISC:
- Hand held white light
- Eye and ear protection (electronic hearing protection is preferred)
- Suitable range wear depending on the season
- Weapon cleaning & lubrication supplies
- Good attitude

Zeroed Weapons: 100-yard carbine preferred, but others are acceptable if you have a good reason why and understand it. Know your handguns zero at various ranges.

Ammo Requirements:
- 600 rounds of handgun
- 600 rounds of carbine

2008 Vickers Tactical AK Operators Class - May 1-2, 2010 - Fayetteville, NC.

Topics covered include safety, stance, zeroing for iron sights and optics, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their carbine includes field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that is covered includes reloads, presentation, shooting positions, and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Malfunction drills and shooting on the move as well as transitions. Timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level. Instruction on the development of the AK and variations, as well as suggested modifications.

- Must shoot an AK or AK variant (AK-47, AKM-47, AK-74, Galil, Valmet, VZ 58 style rifles, etc.)

Gear requirements:

- Eye protection
- Electronic hearing protection
- Serviceable handgun (For transition training) of at least 9mm
- Ammunition required: 800 rifle, 150 pistol
- Minimum four (4) high capacity AK mags
- Minimum two (2) handgun mags
- Chest pouch to hold 3-4 AK mags would be “Nice” – LAV quote
- Handgun mag pouch - Ability to carry a spare pistol mag on body.
- Serviceable AK sling- suitable for a variety of shooting positions - tactical type preferred
- Suitable handgun holster
- Suitable range wear depending on the season
- Rifles zeroed at 100 meters.
- Good attitude.

***There are no pre-requisites for this course. It can be your very first class. As a matter of fact if you are familiar with AK’s at all, you will probably be ahead of the curve. That being said this is not a beginner class either, in Larry's words "This class will knock their socks off"***
