Like before, as slick and smooth as a greased ice cube. It took me longer to fill out the application than it did for the young lady to type my info into the computer from my old LTCF and DL, do the PICS, and print out the new card. $25, nothing but smiles and pleasant folks working for Sheriff Gotwald. No goofy pamphlets or other BS. Just the standard LTCF form..

The courthouse is still being renovated and the Sheriff's Dept just moved back. The security checkpoint is closed and the storage boxes are temporarily unavailable. The other offices of the county are still located across the county until renovations are complete.

Just a thought here, but does anyone feel our neighbors to the east may be in a better position to urge reform on New Germany carry laws now that Chris Christie has been elected governor? Republicans are traditionally more pro-2A than democrats, (not always, but it usually appears this way), and I was wondering if now that Jersey has a Republican executive, whether or not this would be the time for our neighbors to start contacting the administration about making it easier for law-abiding gun owners to obtain carry licenses/permits, or whatever they're called in N.J. I suppose this could come in the form of a switch from "may issue" to "shall issue," but perhaps other reforms could be in the works. Of course, I'm sure us Keystone Staters would be willing to lend our neighbors a helping hand in the form or letter writing campaigns and the like. I was also thinking this would be a benfit in terms of getting Jersey to recognize PA LTCF's, although I'm not holding my breath on that one. Any feedback?

In 2009, the Violence Policy Center began an ongoing research project to identify killings beginning in May 2007 to the present by individuals with concealed handgun permits. As the result of a massive campaign led by the gun lobby, almost all states maintain a veil of secrecy around those who have been issued permits to carry concealed handguns. Therefore, the VPC is forced to rely primarily on news accounts for reports of killings by concealed handgun permit holders and subsequent legal proceedings.

Above is the current tally of killings committed by concealed handgun permit holders identified through news accounts from May 2007 to the present broken out by specific categories. Recognizing that the VPC is relying on news reports, the actual numbers are most likely far higher. This tally is updated monthly. Clicking on each category’s tally will link you to vignettes describing the circumstances for each killing, listed by state. The descriptions also include the current, known status of any charges filed against the permit holder as well as noting instances where the perpetrator committed suicide. (Any concealed handgun permit holders who are eventually acquitted of their alleged crimes are not included in the tallies maintained on the site although the facts surrounding the shooting are detailed.)

The Violence Policy Center welcomes any new information regarding the status of any case (with verifiable source(s)). Use this link to contact the VPC: http://www.vpc.org/contact.htm.

First, I want to make sure I understand reciprocity.

First, I want to make sure I understand reciprocity.

According to the map, I can carry in any state that has a reciprocity agreement with PA with a PA LTCF. Likewise, if I were living in Alaska and had a LTCF from Alaska, I could legally carry in PA. Correct?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm considering moving to Alaska in a few years. I believe OC/CC is legal without a license in AK. I would have to get the license in order to carry in PA, however.

Here's the real question. My LCTF expires in 2011. Next year I'll be living in Canada. Do I need to be a current resident of PA in order to get a renewed LCTF? If not, would it be a no no to say I'm living with my parents, who live in PA? I will be living at home this summer so maybe I could renew it early?

Thanks for any information.

Nothing big, but a nice end to a nice evening. Yesterday I decided to go to Local Shots at Doc Watson's. A friend of mine works for WMMR, so sometimes I like to keep her company during the events.
Anyway, after an evening listening to some good local bands, we decide to call it a night. As we walk outside, I hear a guy sitting in a sidewalk table say "well even without a license you could have carried it openly".
I stop and listen for a moment as the other people sitting around seem a bit incredulous, I get the feeling that they had been discussing a Halloween costume involving a gun.
One says something like
"So I can just carry a gun out in the open, with no license?"
I interject "Sure, you just can't carry it in a car"
The first guy says "Or carry in a "Class 1 city" "(he did the quotes with his fingers)
We headed over to our cars after that, but from what I heard of the rest of the conversation the other 4 people were pretty interested.

As I said, it wasn't a big thing, but it was the first time I've heard or seen anyone talking about carrying outside of "gun events". It put a smile on my face for the ride home.

OK, who was the "idiot" oc'ing in Hazleton Walmart tonight? <--sarcasm.

I was in walmart tonight with my wife and daughter and I over heard the Loss Prevention guys, (ex-cop, Joe. Some of you may know who I am talking about) and a manager talking about someone carrying in there tonight and saying that this guy had a LTCF and "SHOULD" have been carrying concealed and not out in the open. He also stated that this "idiot" is asking for trouble carrying like that. I wanted to go over and say something but I have had it out with him once before and I wasn't in the mood to deal with him again. He is quite the asshole.

I believe that walmart has a policy to follow state law, but apparently Mr. I-couldn't-cut-it-as-a-real-cop thinks his feelings rule out any policy or right. I understand the private property thing, but for him to be talking like that about a person carrying is just flat out wrong. Just wondering if it was one of us. If so, I just wanted to give you a heads up. I may go tomorrow and see if there is a manager on duty that might actually give a shit and talk to me about what I had over heard or if it will just be swept under the rug to not make Mr Walmart Ninja unhappy. Anyway, just thought I'd share what I over heard.

The holidays are approaching and it is time for me to write my letter to Santa.

I'm looking for a tactical carry flashlight (handheld) to add to my rig. I want a durable, High-Output LED, AA battery (NOT 123s) model with multiple output levels. Focusing would be icing on the cake.

What are favorites ... Pros & Cons?

I saw this (http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-ope...forcement.html), but it is 2-years old and there is a lot of newer stuff out now.

Thanks for your input.

So often we hear about experiences that go badly, I though it would be nice to share my recent experience at the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Yesterday, my wife and I had an adoption-related hearing. When we arrived at the courthouse, I told the guard I needed a gun locker. After looking at me briefly with a "are you kidding" expression, he pointed to the lockers just inside the entrance. I removed my gun, paddle holster and all, stuck them in the locker and took the key. He asked me if I was a LEO, briefly looked at my LTCF, then sent me on my way. There was no inquisition, and surprisingly he did not record anything or give me a receipt. I suppose since I had the locker key, that was my receipt. On our way out, I went right to the locker, retrieved my gun and we were out the door.

Having never carried to a court facility before, I didn't know what to expect. It's always nice when things work the way they are supposed to.

But I was told that carrying the pills in an unmarked pill container. Is a violation of the Law. And they must be in a plainly marked bottle from the Pharmacy . Any thoughts on this.
