Hi, I posted this same thread in another forum, I think it may be in the wrong area.

I am here in NY....looking for a place to buy in PA.

My wife and I are looking for a place in PA. For the next 10 years or so, it will be a week-end retreat and likely a yearly hunting camp. After that, we plan on selling our house here in this crappy state and moving to PA for good. A few things that are important to us are.....

1. rural area....we have enough neighbors on top of us now.
2. acreage....we live on a postage stamp now. Our property is 80'x60'
3. low property taxes.....we pay close to 10,000 a year to live on little plot
4. I wanna be able to shoot a rifle or handgun on my property
5. I wanna be able to teach my kids how to hunt on my property too

I am looking for help with location. Can anyone recommend a good area for me to buy. We are looking to be within 4 hours of our home in NY. For instance, Lancaster is about a 3 1/2 hour trip for us.

Any thoughts/info will be appreciated.

Want to buy a Lee Pro 1000 to load rifle and handgun rounds

So I have been seriously contemplating getting into reloading due to the rising costs of ammo anymore. I have been looking at different manufacturer presses and watching all kinds of videos on Youtube to get people's reviews of the machines they are using. I know that some people hate the Lee Pro 1000 because it can be a difficult machine to set up at first, but I have also heard that once it is set, it runs like a champ.

I am looking to get one press to start off with and eventually may get a couple more depending on how much I find it to be a PITA to set up for different calibers. I plan to start loading .45 ACP, 9mmx19, and .223 Rem for starters. My question is, how much of a pain is it to switch from handgun loads to rifle loads with this press? Do I need to buy a bunch of different parts besides to dies? I haven't really seen to many videos with people loading .223 Rem with this press. Most of them are with the Lee Load Master or Classic Turret Press which seems to handle them just fine.

I'm looking to just order everything in one shot, so I want to be able to get up and running as soon as I unpack and set everything up. I really don't want to keep ordering parts because I forgot to get something in order to switch from handgun to rifle loads.

If there is anyone out there that is using a Lee Pro 1000 to do both rifle and handgun loads, I would really like to know how it is working out for you and what other little stuff I will need in order to switch back and forth.

I would like to either sell or trade my all matching 1893 Spanish Mauser. Made in Berlin Germany in 1896. All number match, receiver, bolt, all metal parts even the cleaning rod is numbered to the rifle. No import marks. Stock has a strong 1896 cartouche but has a chip taken out by the forecap. Bore is dark but rifling is strong. Finish is pretty good for being over a 116 year old rifle, slight freckling but nice bluing. Comes with RCBS 7x57 mm dies.

Would like a lever action .30-30 or 35 Remington, maybe an SKS, possibly a handgun. Open to anything. Would sell for $350 OBO.

I've been hoping to find a thread for hunting newbs to learn some stuff. Let's start one?

Not so much the legal stuff, i know hunter safety courses are necessary and liscenses need to be obtained, bag limits honored, that sorta stuff.

I guess I'm looking for more fun reading, like stories of your first deer hunts, first shot you took, how long it took you to "figure it out," that sorta stuff.

for a long time now i've been wanting to learn to hunt. Deer for the most part. Not something that i'd wake up early every morning for, but i'd just really like to learn how to take down a deer, dress it, and get the meat to a place where i could actually make a meal outta it. call it a survivalist thing. a 'man skill' i've yet to learn.

i went hunting with my dad numerous times as a kid, though i never carried a rifle. in fact i didn't shoot at all until a little over a year ago, but now it's my passion and i shoot every weekend.

i guess i can start with first hunting story. I was a snot nosed little kid walking the deer trails with my dad (i think he was carrying a 12g slug gun) and i remember it being cold as shit. To keep the leaves from crackling underfoot i had the genious idea to stomp on them. I thought i was a damned genious until after a few yards i looked up and saw the shocked and bemused look on my pop's face. ...sorry dad

we never did get a deer together, big surprise. it was probably for the best, back then. I was raised by an over protective mother AND saw bambi's parents get killed, and i swore i'd never eat deer meat.

..until dad made some venison stew and told me it was beef until after i ate it. i'm ok with venison now... :)
