Here is a template of the letter I wrote to all the state reps in my zip (so far more to come). Feel free to use and modify to your mood.
Your Name Your address Date The Honorable Your representative or senator’s name and address Dear Representative or Senator: Please call or write to assure me that you will not support House Bill 760 or any other legislation that infringes on the rights of the citizens of this state guaranteed in the US and PA constitutions. If the larger municipalities of this state would let the law abiding citizens protect themselves maybe they wouldn't have such a crime problem. From what I understand those municipalities tend to drag their feet on concealed weapons license applications and in some cases "lose" the applications. I already have to pass and pay for a background check for every firearm I purchase. I also have to pass and pay for background check to receive my concealed weapons license every 5 years. This is a tax on gun owners and an attempt to disarm the law abiding only, criminals will not register and will continue to have guns. The framers of our government knew the importance of an armed populace, without it there would be no United States of America. Pennsylvania Unified Firearms Act §6111.4. Registration of Firearms. Notwithstanding any section of this chapter to the contrary, nothing in this chapter shall be construed to allow any government or law enforcement agency or any agent thereof to create, maintain or operate any registry of firearm ownership within this Commonwealth. For the purposes of this section only, the term “firearm” shall include any weapon that is designed to or may readily be converted to expel any projectile by the action of an explosive or the frame or receiver of any such weapon. It is illegal for the government to keep record of gun ownership. The only reason to do so is for the eventual confiscation of the registered guns. The German government required gun registration prior to Hitler’s rise to power. Once in office he was free to disarm his citizens and achieve complete control. In New York City they required the registration of certain rifles; after a mayoral election the new mayor used the list to confiscate those weapons. Please assure me you will not support legislation of this type. Sincerely, Your Name Citizen of United States of America, State of Pennsylvania Sorry the .doc is too big, but you can cut and paste to taste.
