The Erie Police Department has had their hands full rounding up dozens of criminals.

Police Chief Steve Franklin says the outbreak of shootings a month ago prompted the department to crack down on specific crimes to get guns off the streets.

Since January 1st of this year, 98 guns have been recovered off the streets with 78 arrests made in connection to burglaries, shots fired, and illegal firearms.

"We've got to address the property crimes, we've got to address the robberies on the street and then we have to address the individuals who are ultimately ending up with the weapons in their hands and using them," Franklin said.

Over the last month, at least 33 people have been arrested related to those crimes, including Marquise Barnett, 18, who faces numerous charges including aggravated assault stemming from a shooting outside the Spot Light Tavern on November 9th.

I will give you a suggestion, but first you have to read this:

That is everything you need to know about pepper spray from someone who knows what they are talking about.

As for devices, my suggestion is to purchase an ASP defender in the size you consider most appropriate. I don't know if it is the "hottest", but it's plenty hot and simply a better design. The ASP's thin profile gives the most amount of carry options. Training cartridges are available and you need to train with your spray if you ever want to deploy it effectively. The cartridges are encased and therefore are nearly puncture proof and their casing design also makes for a decent impact weapon if the spray fails to stop an attacker (which should always be a consideration) without having to transition to another device (which you will not have time to do anyway).
