I have a couple questions about the application.
Can I just print this out and submit it or do I need to go down and pick one up? Can I use abbreviations? Whats the correct syntax for birth place? I am guessing City, County, State Thanks |

The Sheriff's department puts the applications on thier website in PDF format so folks may download them and print them. I would suggest using a PDF editor and filling the PDF out on the computer, and then printing it. Be sure to print page 2 on the back!
Abbreviations are fine, as a deputy will have to manually re-enter all the info into the court system computer to process it, and can adjust any syntax issues then. Once the form is filled out, take it and $26 (in cash) to the Erie County Court House. There is a special elevator which you must take to get to the Sheriff's office, just ask the guards at the front door where it is. In all likelyhood, you'll meet with the firarms sargent at the time you submit the application, who will take your $26 and picture, and go over your application with you a bit. If you don't seem like a wacko during the interview, and don't have a criminal record, you'll likely get your permit via postal mail in 7 days. -douglas Last edited by doug; September 7th, 2006 at 10:17 AM. |

Yeah, it's a painless process. They have the applications there. I just went and filled it out and had to go into the office and get my picture taken. The guy said "You'll have your license in the mail in a week or so" and I had it in 7 days exactly.

I can legally carry in over thirty states, including Pennsylvania. I'm FBI cleared and carry/defensive pistol trained.
I spend a fair amount of time in the state, though. Will the Erie County sheriff issue a permit to me? |

I'm a US Citizen with a Canadian wife. I'm residing in Canada at the moment.
It's amazing what love will do to people. We'll be moving south as soon as she retires. ![]() Thanks for the info. The more permits the merrier! So, although I'll probably never be in Philadelphia, is that place the only Class 1 city? Carrying in Pittsburgh, f'rinstance, is OK? Thanks for any help. |

Filthydelphia is the only city of the first class and it's not going to change in the foreseeable future. Pittsburg is only about 550k and it's boxed in and can't grow. your legal in pittsburg but you may very well get hassled for it.

Interesting. Hassled for concealed carry in Pittsburgh?
While I have your attention, where's a good place in Pennsylvania to look for a lakeshore riverside cottage or cabin? There are zillions up here, but anything civilized is over $200,000. A hunting cabin with about thirty acres about 2.5 hours from Toronto is about $40,000. Should I be looking in Western Pennsylvania? Where? Thanks for any help, and sorry for hijacking my own thread. |
