Default Call to check the progress

I call the Monroe County Sheriffs office today to check the progress of my permit.

You would not believe what the Officer on duty told me. He said he had all my paperwork and it would wandering around the office for 2 more weeks. I put in my paper work on 9/5/2007. I think they let it sit so you might forget about it or give up.

Hard to comment on just that little bit of info... was he a smart-ass with his tone, or did he simply mean that with all the other paperwork, it would likely take 2 weeks to get to yours?

and what's up with using D-FENS's avatar?

Legally, they have 45 days and some counties use every last one of them.

Nice avatar BTW

I think he was being a little sarcastic, I think they just don't care which ones get done or sit around. I think they stall on them for a few weeks just to hassle the person requesting the permit. I know when my references sent in the cards because they told me when they did and it was the following week after I turned in the paper work. How long does it take to do the instant check? 5 to 10 min maybe. I live in an area that is populated with a lot of transplants from NJ and NY, so they want to make sure that you actually live here.

It just pisses me off that hard working honest citizens have to wait for something that is given to us by the constitution of PA

Your references had to send in "cards"?
It just amazes me how much variation there is between counties when it comes to the procedure to obtain something that is valid statewide.

Not to be a stickler with things, but the PA or US Constitution doesn't give us any rights.. Our rights are inalienable - which means the existed before law, that they are fundamental god given(evolutionary for the other believers). The Constitutions only protect those rights from being infringed upon.

I guess you are correct that it is a right before the State or Federal Government stepped in to control the people.
The Sheriffs deptment sent them Cards that ask I think it was 4 questions and 1 line for remarks. I think the questions were the following: ( i might be incorrect) Is the applicant a full time monroe county resident? Do you know if the applicant uses drugs or drinks? something of is the applicant a good citizen? and the other I can not remember

Patience, Bert, patience...
Took nearly 5 months for mine (NC) from start to finish.
I hope you'll be smiling long before that!

Howdy bert, not that it helps, but for your amazement, last time I had one in NJ my renewal took 8 1/2 months! And that was for a restricted, on the job only permit!

Lol, ya'll should be happy. In Texas the mimimum wait time for your permit is 90 days, and if there's any questions about you having a firearm, then it'll take closer to 180 days. Our licenses also cost $150 for a 5 year license, and you are required to take a class that can cost anywhere from $80-150 depending on where you have it taken and if you want to mess with the hassle of having your fingerprints and stuff done somewhere else. Oh well, at least nobody questions why we want one.
