The holster that came with my XD .45 sucked.
It's cheap, uncomfortable and moves around too much even on my big belt. Its decent for range use, or to rig it somewhere to hold your gun.

LOL true enough. I have seen some pretty kool pictures of guys attaching them to the bottom of desks, inside pick ups, etc. to hide the XD45.

Fobus Roto Paddle holster, cant adj. screw goes into plastic, screw lets go, weight of the grip of your gun forces the holster to "roto" when it's not supposed to and dump your gun on the floor.
The pager pal holsters....oh boy You pay $65ish dollars for a holster that unless you weat very baggy pants, you'll never get the gun out in time, and you will get teased. "Is that a gun in your crotch or are you happy to see me?" Galco NSA I or II, only one very crappy point of "attachment" to your waist, slides all over the place in jeans, works ok in slacks.

Uncle Mike's inside the pants holsters. No retention of the weapon other than a tight belt, need for at least 2 hands to reholster, don't sit and than stand up or you dump the gun on the floor plus they wear very fast. I also do not like the thumb break on their holsters

General things to avoid (things i avoid): Fobus (anything they make); blackhawk (pretty much anything they make); anything "injection molded"; paddle holsters; most cheap kydex; some expensive kydex; Any kydex that is riveted togeather. anything advertised as "used by Israeli special forces"; anything that secures to your belt with a piece of plastic; any IWB that doesn't stay open with the gun out (most cheap leather); J-hooks; nylon anything unless its just the finish on the outside of a safariland duty holster.

I had a bianchi IWB holster for the ruger sp101 , it would not let the gun ride low enough in the pants and it kept flipping out

I tried some of the Uncle Mike's cloth holsters. They don't stay open without the gun in them, don't adequately protect the trigger area, and don't support a heavy gun very well.
Galco holsters can be good, or bad. I like my Royal Guard IWB holster, but it's a bit bulky. The other Galco holster I have, can't remember the name, has issues staying open without the gun in it. Comp-Tac kydex holsters are generally good. I had problems with the belt clip breaking off, so I decided to give a Sidearmor kydex holster a try, which has a more durable clip. Disadvantage is I can't slip the holster off without unbuckling my belt and slipping it off my belt. It also likes to rub on heavy belts. Comp-Tac's infidel line looks really promising, so might have to give that a try. Kydex holsters also have a nicer draw. The ones I've used retain very well, but once you break retention, they come out smooth as silk. It takes a bit of getting used to, because leather holsters retain with friction, so the holster will hold on to the gun the whole time it's coming out, not so with Kydex, and you have to be prepared for that. In short, I think you need a holster that keeps its form when the gun is out of it, so you can re-holster easily, and without having to put your hands where the gun is going to spread out the holster to ease the gun in. Leather holsters that do this tend to add more girth to the gun, which can be a problem for concealment. I've become a big fan of good, quality kydex holsters for this reason, and would recommend either Comp-tac or Sidearmor holsters.
