Default "You can't carry in Philly"

I've had at least four people in the last month tell me "Oh, you can't carry a pistol in Philadelphia, even with a LTCF", this seems to be a very common misconception... Two of the people that said it, had their LTCF.

I gave them the PA gun rights pamphlet, and told them that they were probably thinking of the fact that you can't 'open carry' without a LTCF in the city of Philadelphia, unlike the rest of PA, where it is legal to open carry without a LTCF.

They said no, they had thought it was completely illegal to carry in Philadelphia.

It seems that there is a very prevalent myth, that Philly is a no gun zone...

Well with a mayor that is rampant antigun and police that don't know PA laws (or any law for that matter) I'm not surprised. Did you ask them then why does Phily issue LTCF's if you can't carry there?

oh they just do that to comply with the "shall issue" law...but its just for show!....lol...because really, Philly makes their own laws right?

I remember when i lived there, about 14 years ago, a couple of my friends had ltcf, they said they had to go through so much bullshit to get it, and they were revoking them left and right for stupid shit.

Actually, that is another misconception I've heard... Many people say "Philly won't issue LTCFs"...

Because of all the hassle that goes with OC here in Philadelphia, most gun owners decide to keep the weapons concealed. This has caused a slow down of education on the subject. (Out of site, out of mind, type of thing). Thanks for educating that person, I would refer him to this forum for more information.

I was in uniform just last week and someone approached me with the same question. They had a LTCF from Allegheny County and they wanted to know if they could carry in Philly. I told them of course they could and that thier license is good any where in the commonwealth.

When my LTCF was issued to me I commented on things being treated "a little differently" in Philadelphia.

The Sheriff looked at me and said "It's a Pennsylvania License To Carry a Fiream."

I replied essentially "I know; they just seem to have their own way of interpreting the UFA."

He said "It's a PENNSYLVANIA License To Carry a Firearm."
