How many spare mags do you carry?

Normally 2 but since I just started carrying again I'm still looking at what to carry for summer. I'll probably just use the Versipak, although I did just pick up a spare mag for the P11. I kinda like the Murse, people on another forum called me gay but I'm ok with that knowing there's a G19 and 61 rounds on my hip.

I'd like to be able to carry an extra mag at all times but it's really damned annoying. I usually don't carry the second two mags on my person unless I'm going out of the area or heading to places like Allentown or Philadelphia, otherwise the spare mags stay in the car.

A big dilemma for me is I only have the double mag carrier that came with my XD. It's bulky and not built for concealment whatsoever.

I generally OC everywhere I go but I don't like having my extra magazines on display for personal reasons.

I'm the same way. I OC almost everywhere, but I use an IWB mag pouch for my spare.

Three total.

I carry two reloads for my primary. In the cooler parts of the year that's two thirteen rounders for my XD .45. Late spring through early fall it's two twelve rounders for my XD .40 SC with a nine round mag in the pistol.

I also carry one reload for my P3AT BUG. I have the +1 extensions on the mag in the BUG and the spare.

Oh, I almost forgot, I carry a third spare for my primary either in my truck or my pack.

I voted two but as Pa Pat stated, it varies considerably based on what guns I carry, what time of day it is , what the weather is, etc etc.


Most of the time i carry two Kahr 7 rnders in my front weakside pocket. The pistol is carried either IWB, pocket or ankle (based on dress). I carry the two Kahr mags daily and really have no discomfort in doing so.

Quite often, I carry a Glock 23 with a spare mag in weakside back pocket.
This puts the Kahr into BUG mode. This is my preferred method to carry.
I find that ankle carry while wearing shorts is tacky and people tend to see through the long black socks pulled over the ankle rig. I always thought sandals and black socks don't mix but that's just me and I stopped doing so.
OC on your ankle just seems wrong plus there is minimal retention on both my ankle rigs.

I comfortably carry 3 mags then, but mostly in pockets.

I wear a flashlight on my belt along with a cellphone (at work, two cellphones) so belt mag carry really loads me up. I may make a tradeoff and get a mag/light pouch.

I am almost never without both flashlight and at least one gun.

13+1 in the XD, two spare mags; both 13 rounds.
One has the same +P 230 grain HSTs as the gun, the second has 230 gr. FMJs

If I'm carrying the BUG, it's only got the seven in the chambers.

I always carry 1 extra mag for anything i carry. if i have a mag faliure i have the extra but beyond that i will go to my back up gun, faster then fumbling with another mag at that point.

Back when I started carrying my Colt Trooper .357 6", 6 rounds in the cylinder accompanied by 2 speed loaders seemed quite the arsenal. These days I typically have 17.40S&W rounds in the pistol plus an extra magazine in my pocket.

Depending on the holter setup I choice to use in the future, my number of extra magazine probably will increase by 1.
