Default Off to class

As some of you southeasterners know, my school has been going through some nasty things. Not that they're letting much out, but class has been cancelled since last thursday, and they're evidently getting cooperation from some real live police agencies in investigating some manner of threat.

Official word for now is, we're going to go back to business as usual tomorrow - but we're not allowed to bring in backpacks or purses. Moment of WTF? aside, I'm not sure how I feel I can handle this situation.

If someone's threatening to attack a place I really need to be (two more weeks of classes and then I'm free again), I'd be VERY much inclined to carry my gun. Also, I'm gonna skip the birkenstocks and wear some shoes I can run in..

On the other hand, I have this horrible sinking feeling that there might be checkpoints, kids might get wanded, etc... who the heck knows? I certainly don't.

Anyone have pointers for managing some unknowns here? My default plan is to carry, with a very specific cover garment, and if they're wanding people I'm gonna turn around and walk out.

School starts again in the fall, somewhere else, where it would NOT bode well for me to have an expulsion for carrying a weapon on my transfer record.

EDIT:
They must've just changed the message. Now we're gonna have a "visible police presence" and metal detectors. Dunno WHAT exactly I'm gonna do. I guess for one night I can survive on mental preparedness (and cardiovascular endurance) alone..

If they DO scan for metal then any gun (besides the Bruce Willis glock) does you no good. I'm not sure of the school policy but I doubt you are allowed to CCW.

As much as it hurts me to say it you might have to keep it in your room and hope for the best. Bring up your troubles to someone in the university and if possible (as hard as it is) try to find one somewhat pro 2nd.

They also have some really cool poly knives that are better than nothing I guess.

Yeah, well, that one costs more than you make in a month, so forget that....

re: glock -- You guys suck, you know Nancy Pelosi is reading this board and will be cutting and pasting your comments!!

Went to class tonight - did not die in an explosion. There were no explosions to die in. There was one local cop and one statey there, no metal detectors, they were checking bags. Someone had the foresight to lock all but a few doors, too - you could get out, and with some cooperation you could probably get in, but 95% of everyone was being funnelled in through the main doors.

If these shenanigans go on much longer I might pack in spite of them.. but I'm not sure how long they'll go.

question, maybe this is a dumb one, but even if you had one of those bruce willis glocks, wouldn't the bullets set off the metal detector?

I have not been to school in years. But I as under the impression you can not lock the door to prevent people from exiting due to fire risks and so on. I though that was the whole reason behind push bars (open from the inside and locked on the outside).

Keep me updated. I'm also a delco student and an just finishing up my degree online (i only had one more class to take). I'm also transferring out in the fall. I will have to stop back on campus to finish up some paperwork at the end of the month, so if you can find a way to evade the metal detectors, PM me. I've been carrying at delco for over a year now with zero problems.

Delco policy states no "Illegal or unauthorized possession or use of firearms, fireworks, explosives, dangerous chemicals or arms classified as weapons on College-owned or controlled property"

My gun is not illegal and i am authorized by the state of pennsylvania to carry a firearm. Good enough for me.

Edited. Marc, I'll PM you - it's just not good OPSEC to pass word along the internet, and publicly at that. You'd see me in the papers - local youth arrested in bomb threat investigation...

boy that'd be a buggeranahalf.
