My question is this. Isn't the proof of residency requirement redundant and extra-legal since I've already stated my residence on the application and signed it under penalty of law? This was/is an issue in Fairfax VA and down there you could submit with no SSN or proof of residency and they had to issue due to it being a "shall-issue" state. Anyone tried this yet up here?

Also, the Lancaster County "second form" is titled "INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIREARMS PERMIT APPLICANTS" and yet it requests further personal info. Sure it's splitting hairs but it's either instructions or additional info or both. They need to call it what it is. I think I'll call them them on that also so they know that their program is under scrutiny.

Thoughts?
Can you scan that second form for us?

As far as I can see, five questions do indeed seem redundant to the (generally believed as) "uniform" PSP application (such as the app. from York County). The first question on this Lancaster 'instruction sheet' asking for "your current police agency" seems completely without merit to me. Why would they need such information? Why would they expect you, as an applicant for a license, to provide it?

My best guess is that, as a courtesy, this Sheriff will inform the various "police agencies" of new licensees in their respective jurisdictions. If this is the case, there may be even more "illegal practices" going on with the Sheriff as it is my understanding that, by law, your application (and records pertaining to them) are supposed to be kept confidential.

Of course, this is only my guess.

I may very well state "Not a member of any police agency" in that block. When asked I'll explain that their "instruction sheet" is obviously lacking in instructions!

After formally critiquing their form, perhaps I'll hand them a corrected copy the way it SHOULD read. Who knows, maybe they'll use it!
