FWIW from this site: http://criminal-law.freeadvice.com/v...lt_battery.htm
Quote:
What is the difference between assault and battery?

If the victim has been actually touched by the person committing the crime, then battery has occurred. If the victim has not actually been touched, but only threatened, then the crime is considered to be assault.

and from this site: http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/a...t_battery.html

Quote:
In most states, an assault/battery is committed when one person 1) tries to or does physically strike another, or 2) acts in a threatening manner to put another in fear of immediate harm. Many states declare that a more serious or "aggravated" assault/battery occurs when one 1) tries to or does cause severe injury to another, or 2) causes injury through use of a deadly weapon. Historically, laws treated the threat of physical injury as "assault", and the completed act of physical contact or offensive touching as "battery," but many states no longer differentiate between the two.

I couldn't get past the first few sentence-paragraphs without my head's getting ready to explode.

Cancelling soccer games because a parent lawfully carries a gun there, yet making it too unsafe. Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

Nanny-statism at its worst.

The sheeple in this country make me ashamed to be an American. I just am so disgusted...and tired...of the ignorance of the police and knee jerk citizens who care nothing of freedom.

The comment about the fathers threatening to disarm anyone carring at the game is very telling. They FEEL a certain way, and so they act. Frankly, anyone that even threatens to take my weapon has proved themselves worthly of being shot.

I wonder if those guys were just talking out their ass, or they actually think they can get away with attempting to take a pistol off of someone?

There are a lot of gun haters that think we gun people are all push overs without our guns. OR that we carry because we're cowards or pussies or would get our ass kicked in a fight that didn't involve weapons.

I've had an asshole in NJ(the state is full of them)say this to me. Of course I was unarmed. I told him to "there's one way to find out". He never tried but just kept talking his trash.

Someone grabs for my gun they better kill me or knock me out. Otherwise it will be one hell of a fight. If you grab a badger by his tail you better have a plan for dealing with his claws & teeth.

Indeed. It's the same way if someone goes up to a police officer and tries to take theirs. Someones ass is gonna be in for it.

Still reading but want to reply to this statement before I have about a trillion other thoughts (already have close to that flooding my mind today...

I agree that trouble can happen anywhere, but I think the question of "why carry to a soccer game" frames the issue as though a soccer game is special, or that SFN only carries there
It is already evidently about MORE then soccer games seeing how people are clearly stalking me at stores etc. It is about GUNS. NOT soccer games...now back to reading and then I'll reply to the rest.

First, I'd just like to point out the disgusting irony of the fact that the people who are "afraid" of guns and the dangers of them (it might go off, someone might grab it and there might be an accident etc) are the very people who think it would be a wise solution to walk up to me and try to disarm me themselves. I don't know whether to laugh at the visual image I get, cry because of the stupidy of people today, or just plain roll my eyes and move on.

As far as some sort of mob of OC gathering at a game I am going to have to say I maintain that this would not be a good move. It has been nice having one or two people with me and if anyone has time to attend games OC or CC just to show support/be a witness etc that is appreciated but in the past when people have contacted me about coming to games I have specifically "scheduled" attendees in a way so that I never had more then a person or two (2 meaning husband and wife or g/f and b/f coming together) at a time.

I don't feel that we are an aggressive bunch in nature and I know that deep down as much as this frustrates all of us at the end of the day we all know one thing. We really are kind and peaceful people. THEY have been the aggressors and haters. We don't want a negative light shined down on us now. Especially not with all the eyes that are on us.

Think about all the times we've seen fellow firearms owners who are say "less then responsible" and we think "what horrible or scary representation of the rest of us!" and while we may reach out to teach them some of them are not very welcoming and we know they are going out into the community and will be viewed the same way and we'll all be viewed that way. Think about all of those who are not responsible and their kids get their guns and shoot their friend or themselves or the actual gun owner shoots themself, their kid or their spouse or whatever. Don't you find yourself saying "thank a lot!"

I think a demonstration of a mass of OCers would have a lot of people saying the same thing. It just looks "aggressive" and that is not the message we want to send. At the same time, yes, having a witness there to say "yep, that guy totally walked up on her and tried to disarm her while she was minding her own business!" would be handy. I see the value in that. I hope I am making sense. (and I have not even read these comments yet!)

I am concerned for you on this statement.

Are they really following you around or are they by chance recognizing you when you go into some place? People will tend to recognize you as you have gained some exposure in the press including a picture(s). I hope it is the latter case.
