Learned something very interesting yesterday, bad guys don't wear holsters. Good guys (or gals) do. The holster is an integral part of showing your intention.

Seems to be true. Bad guys expect to ditch their guns, and they don't want to explain an empty holster. I can't imagine anyone going without a holster without a good reason--unless it's the fun of losing it down your pants leg or shooting yourself in the foot.

If I found myself in a situation where "ditching my gun" was necessary, I wouldn't mind losing a $10 Uncle Mike's holster too, which would seem like a reasonable investment to help prevent shooting myself in the leg (or worse).

I've thought that myself. Maybe it's the fault of TV and movies, like the habit of holding a pistol sideways above eye level. If so, kudoes to TV and movies for doing its bit to save people from stupid criminals.

Something tells me that criminals don't get that attached to their firearms, probably because they didn't buy them in the first place. If they steal one that is in a nice holster, they most likely figure they don't need it because they got big pockets in their hoodies anyway.

Very true, but reports were that Burress purchased the gun legally in Florida, and was at some point licensed there, though apparently his license expired.

Of course, neither of those facts make his actions in New York legal, but they do hint that he might be more than your typical 'gang-banger'. And while I wouldn't suggest someone imitate his actions, if I were to attempt something stupid like that, I'd take a little care to help insure I wouldn't be discovered.

Yeah, but, assuming they still know it's bad for a felon to have a gun, they would be more likely to go IWB. Ditching your gun and a holster that's been carried that way, would likely be a decent source of DNA...... Maybe they ain't that stupid....

I doubt too many of them watch CSI, or can even spell DNA.

The ones that are somewhat intelligent probably carry in their hand which is stuck in their coat pocket or pants pocket.

Sorry for getting this thread so far off topic.
