The people who say they are hunters and gun owners, but then take pot shots at OC, may very well be like the hound hunters in MI who sold themselves out to HSUS so they could take a potshot at bobcat trappers. I hope the anti OC gun owners aren't that bad though.

There has been a history of hunters attacking trappers though, used to be a problem in the last big fur boom, often times it was the houndsmen vs trappers. It all came down to money, and a bunch of hounds with sore paws. The MI episode was about the houndsmen having people pay good money for a bobcat hunt, and they felt the trappers were "stealing" bobcats, thus cutting into the profits of the houndsmen. Past clashes of hunters vs trappers lead to bans on snaring, trapping seasons reduced yet hunting season remained the same, bag limits on raccoons ( LOL!), ban on fox trapping in some counties/states, or whole states....

I hope that gun owners NEVER get that greedy and rediculous to cut eachother's throats! Though we do have that bogus sounding group that supports Obama.

Gun owners should support hunters and trappers, wether you hunt/trap or not, and it should be mutual all the way around, a deer rifle is a firearm as much as a semi auto handgun, and a trapper uses a .22 to dispatch with. The antis plain love when those in the same group attack eachother and divide eachother up, it makes the antis job easier.

The whole OC thing reminds me of 15-20 years ago when ASSAULT WEAPONS Were the boogey man of the day.

It divided gun "owners" in much the same way.

BUT

Many people are simply OC'ing normally, as individuals, as a normal practice.
This is working wonders IMO throughout the state to normalize OC and guns. Unfortunately, there will be places (soccer games) that some folks will think are over that proverbial line. Or at least at this time.
We will never all agree. I just hope that no matter where people decide to OC that they do so with care and respect. IF there is a negative reaction or an incident, how you respond can be more important than where you were when it happened. Remember that the world is watching you and make sure to act accordingly is all I ask people.
After reading Danp's comment and some of those that support it, I would love for him to clarify it. It seems to me that what he was saying, and I could be wrong but this is how it's coming across- and being agreed with-, is OK you made your point, got your license back, now be nice and cover it up so the people you beat can go back to their lives, because after all, there really is no need to OC at a kids soccer game, it makes us all look like gun nuts, and it is going to cause all these soccer moms to get more pissed off and then we will lose our rights.

That is what I got out of it, dance around it however any of you like.

Give and take, diplomacy, and compromise is for politicians, not people fighting to keep their rights. Activists or non activists who OC, have the right to do so where it is legal, no matter the opinions of soccer moms, sheriffs, judges, or forum owners who don't necessarily agree with the method. OC or CC where you like, when you like, as long as it is legal, and if someone causes another unfounded trouble, stand with them as if it was your family. Because we are.

That issue seemed to clear up pretty well though, look at the crap Jim Zumbo got when he made ill comments about evil looking rifles. Hunters and 2A activists alike were tearing into Zumbo. The houndsmen vs trappers thing has been going on since at least the mid 70's, if not earlier. In fact earlier may be right, FL banned all trapping except by snare and cage in 1974 or something, and I am sure that some group of houndhunters had a hand in it. Probably no one really used snares in FL at the time and the houndhunters overlooked it when pushing behind closed doors to be rid of the foot and bodygrip traps.

I also have to ask where all the gun owners in CO and AZ were when the ballot initiatives to ban most trapping were up- and passed. Another example why the bickering needs to end. HSUS no doubt dislikes guns too ( they are used to kill animals OMG), I am sure they are buddies with Brady Bunchers.

I thought the rule was the first person to reference Rosa Parks in an OC debate loses the internets.

But hey, we don't have to be nazis about it.

agree that some are biting off more than they or rather we as a community can chew at any one given time. On the other hand some do it on purpose I think. Some sem to follow the "I wish a Motherf*&*er would say something" mentality. ONly to spout off at the mouth with no real facts about the law, much like the anti's.

Secondly I can tell you from personal experience that regular OC'ing of a handgun has changed some minds. My neighbors in fact had some rather inteligent questions about the laws regarding carrying weapons after my small time incident at the Dover carnival. Now they know that it is legal and since they see me do it all the time, I hope the have learned that it is okay, and not a need to call the police.

I just hope that ""perverbial line" gets pushed bac farther and farther, but that we also realize that it won't happen with one unifying incident but rather a slow progression of calm calculated responses by a community in unison with each other, not a bunch of loudmouths pushing their agendas in people faces. Not to say that some need that kind of in your face politics to get the point. But I would just rather see some decorum exercised with these incidents. As I said all very confusing. But I also agree that we all need to be unified against the GC agendas out there. Arguing amongst ourselves will solve nothing, but rather further the position of those against us.
