Solid point about "best interests"... that pretty much ties it together in a neat package.

Gunlawyer covered the rest well enough. On the points above though, how exactly am I supposed to make eye contact with someone standing behind the B pillar of my car while seated and belted in with hands at 10 and 2? As for the "Smile!", my only comment would be fuck you officer Peters. You have arrested me and I am no longer at liberty to control myself. While I may have been speeding or not, I am not happy to see you, and will not smile for you. Give me my speeding tax bill and go revenue someone else. Here's some advice for officer friendly: Don't write me a ticket that you wouldn't write for any members of your own police force if they were off duty and doing the same thing. When you stop acting like it's us vs. them, with them being anyone but a cop or D.A., I'll stop acting like it too. Don't forget to smile!! |

I have been thinking about this particular situation a lot lately. I have not been pulled over in a long time and never while I had an LTCF. I too have made the decision to not disclose unless asked if there are any weapons or if asked to step out of car as it is not the law to do so.
The one thing I am unsure of is if an officer did ask and i disclose and the LEO wants me to hand it over, do I empty the pistol before handing it over or let the officer do so? (make him aware that you are unloading and do it safely of course) I have a friend that disclosed and the leo wanted the pistol handed over. he unloaded and locked the slide open, kept the mag and handed the pistol over. The officer asked why he did this and my friend said, "I don't hand my loaded weapon to anybody, not even a police officer. the leo just kind of smiled and when the discussion was over about the traffic stop, he handed the weapon back to my friend. |

Hmmm every time I drive through a not so hot area, especially at night, my gun is laying on the passenger seat. Much quicker access than if it were holstered. According to this guy, that's a no-no if I were to get pulled over? Whatever.
