Today I took a long lunch and came back from Great Valley to get my parking permit and the gun office was right in the same lobby so I applied. They did have the permit applications there. I filled out the local check form and she asked me how long I have lived in PA and I said "it'll be a week on Sunday" and she said "well how can we run a background check on you?" I said "I don't know but there's no residency time requirement in the law" so she went back to the sergeant and he asked me where I lived before and I said "I just moved from Maryland" and he said "Is this your first ccw?" and I said "yes" so he asked for my Maryland drivers license number, so I gave it to him. He called later to ask me for my social (I wrote it in the wrong place).
So I guess he was running the check. I had hoped to be able to get it tomorrow in time for the Lambda Chi reunion down at the stadium, but I'll have to wait till next week. I will say, despite this, both the woman and the police officer were nothing but polite. I think that neither had honestly never seen a person apply for an LTFC as fast as I was. |

I wonder though, if I wasn't a young white male, in office attire, and an employee badge on my coat, would I have gotten the same response?

I wasn't in office attire when I went, Jeans and a polo shirt. Got the same treatment. Very nice people there.

What a pain in the ass. I love Alabama. Go to county Sheriffs Dept. Fill out application, pay $20, they run you through NCIC, in less than 10 minutes, BOOM! Your done. Sign your CC permit, they laminate for you and on your way.

I am planning to go get mine hopefully next week. from what I've read Norristown is one of the towns where as long as there's no hold up with the police check you can generally get it the same day?

When was applying for mine in Norristown in February, I was told to drop the police-check card off at the local law enforcement office, and that agency would mail it back to Norristown. The Norristown folks told me to wait two weeks for it to be mailed back to them, then give them a call to insure they had it.
After two weeks - I called. The card had been returned. I went to the courthouse with the paperwork, they took the photos, and handed me a LTCF (in exchange for $43.00) (You can pretty easily park on the street on the south side of the courthouse, and when you go past the security check upon entering the courthouse, you can ask the Deputy for direction to the office. For REAL fun, ask them if they can check a firearm for you while you are in there, as per the law.....wait - that was another thread ;-) ) /wingnut |

Cool thanks. I think I'll be doing so this week if I get the chance. Think the fact that not knowing any of my neighbors will be an issue since I'm only there once or twice a month due to being out of town working most of the time will be an issue? A guy I work with said that when he went for his they went and interviewed his neighbors before they issued his LTCF.
