+1 for handling that as well as you did.

It's my belief that if he truly was LEO, he would've already shown you his LEO badge and ID. I have a friend who used to work security at a mall AND was a police officer as well. Therefore, if he needed to use his powers of arrest as a LEO, he made it clear to whom he was arresting that he was indeed lawful to do so.

Also, nice job of keeping your legal knowledge of UFA and firearms laws on-hand and at-ready.

Rep deserved and sent,

I think you handled it pretty well and I doubt he was a cop as well. Hopefully you got his name and can report him.

How far of a drive is that for you??

Unfortunately, he had no identifying name tag of any kind and didn't want to identify himself. It's about an hour drive for me from Bear, Delaware...

I go to the Lancaster Outlets often, I've never seen anything but UNARMED security. I wonder if that's new. My first inclination would be to walk away especially since he claimed to be Off Duty and refused to show ID.
I applaud you for sticking in there and just seeing how far he may have taken the situation.

§ 4912. Impersonating a public servant.
A person commits a misdemeanor of the second degree if he falsely pretends to hold a position in the public service with intent to induce another to submit to such pretended official authority or otherwise to act in reliance upon that pretense to his prejudice.

The guy that works out there is not a police officer. He is just what he is, an armed security guard. He also does armed duty at the Wachovia branch in downtown Lancaster. I would have told him that if he wanted to call the police to feel free to do so. I would have also mentioned that you were going to report him for impersonating a leo and illegal detention when they arrived. He had no right to grab you like he did. I also believe that he is not hired by the outlet. He is hired specifically for that store chain in which you were shopping. The outlets hire rentacops from Schaad Detective Agency, How do I know this? I was on unemployment a while back and while getting a new job was tough I was able to land a part time with Schaad for a little extra income.

i'm with the other guys on this: he claimed to be a LEO, and you called him on it. when he didn't produce ID, you should have called 911, immediately. if he was really LEO, producing ID would have been no big deal. i'll bet even money he wasn't. that moron deserves a nice new pair of shiny bracelets.
