I'd open carry, if it's an option.

Who does he think he is, anyway?

I was CC with a button down shirt, but not buttoned. Well, last night my girlfriend asked me how I thought about not carrying next weekend when her parents came to visit. I was puzzled because she had never cared about it before, OC, CC, or otherwise. Here her dad doesn't want me to carry. One of the guys at their camper club saw my firearm, one way or another, and had asked her dad "what it was about." Apparently he has this thing about what people think of him, or something... my girlfriend couldn't explain it. I told her I didn't really like that idea, and she acknowledged that she can't make me do anything and she doesn't have a problem with.

I guess this guy that saw it thought it was funny I would carry a firearm at a camp in the woods. The way I see it, I-80 is 2-3 miles from the campsite. Any police chase "could" come off the interstate and someone drive down that road where the campsite is. It happened once where a guy killed this girl in MD, fled MD, and once PSP caught up to him, he got off at the Clarion exit, went into town, into a residential area, wrecked the car, broke into a house, and held PSP at bay until he shot himself. Also, I had stopped at a gas station nearby that has been robbed on a few occasions.

Sorry for the ranting, but I think it's an unreasonale request, just because of what someone might think of him, or what someone might think of me and associate him the same. I'm 25, all thorought my teenage years I cared too much what people thought of me. Now I could give two shits. We're only here once and have more important things to worry about.
My response would be this and this alone. I would be happy not to carry next week under one condition and one condition only. The condition is I will not carry if you can get every criminal to stop there ways for that time period. If you would or your father would kindly ask all criminals to to stop their violent actions I will be happy not to carry. Wait you can't do that you say?? Well then I will go on as usual.

I am so sick of people asking us to stop carrying cause it makes them uncomfortable. You want to know what will be really uncomfortable when some one robs us and I can not protect myself or you or your father or anyone for that matter. Guns are not the problem, the problem is the assholes that seek to do others harm. Criminals attack where ever when ever, they have no schedule nor any rhyme or reason. Kiss my ass I will carry all the time to every where that is legal.

Sorry rant over.

I think if you're gf is fine with it you simply need to do a couple of things. Conceal better if that's your method, and then ask yourself: "Who's on my short list?"

Not being condescending, but this will not be the last time in life you will have to ask that question so go ahead now & get to it. You'll feel much less conflicted when you've done that. That resolve, one way or the other, will stand you in good stead forever.

The question comes to this, do you want to make your wife happy or make you and your wife as safe as possible. You never know when evil will strike, never!! What if God forbid, knock on wood!!!! You and your wife are out and you stop for gas or snacks or something and an armed robbery goes down, you could have had the tools to prevent any harm to you or yours or an innocent but you left said tools at home to make your wife happy. Just something to think about.

I carry at all times and no I don't care if you don't like it, or it make you uncomfortable. My personal safety and the safety of my loved ones and the innocents around me are worth more to me than your comfort level!!!!

Only you can answer those questions.

I will say that if (a) you feel that you need to be diplomatic with your girlfriend's father (a perfectly respectable position, after all you may want to ask his permission to marry her at some point if you're serious about her, despite what the swaggering internet cowboys might say,) and (b) you really don't feel comfortable going unarmed in this situation, I'd say your options are:

* Don't go

* carry concealed in such a way that no one else has a chance to know you're carrying. Either take a good quality pocket pistol, or else carry deeply concealed (using something like Smartcarry). (Or maybe just make sure your cover garment stays in place!)

Good luck.
My thoughts also, on an indirect request concerning anothers Private property.

Open carry with kilt is the best solution Ive seen here. Its something that, somehow, makes people uncomfortable, yet is as manly and comfortable for yourself as you can get.

The only way I can make sense of it is that people who feel uncomfortable with themselves find reasons in others to blame that discomfort. Someone who is forced by society to wear restrictive jeans or dockers all day with tighty whiteies sees a kilt as so unusual to them that they blame it for their general discomfort. People are scared by violent crimes, yet follow the doctrine of leftist thought that guns are evil. So when they see someone carrying a firearm, they place the blame there for the discomfort.

The pattern continues for almost all things that are regarded as counter-culture, such as large peice tats, peircings and other body mods, offbeat hairstyles, makeup, clothing, etc. Seeing or being in close proximity to people appearing that way can actually make the 'normal' person uncomfortable, regardless of the other persons behavior.

Basically, sheep dont like the idea of going outside the safety of the fence, so when you do it, it scares them.

I gotta agree. Been a number of years for me. I've been wanting to get a new kilt for some years (since I "grew out of" my old ones)
But I'm loosing weight and may fit in my old ones very soon

Back to the OP. I tend to not go places my firearm is not welcome. The same as I would not go places my wife or kids are not welcome.
As others have pointed out, in the end it's your priorities that will dictate your decisions like this.
