Good idea. Consider also that "shooting" is only a part of the game.

You're in York, I recommend checking out ATSA. They hold monthly study group sessions at West Shore (Haririsburg)
http://www.teddytactical.com/index.htm

Also, www.insightstraining.com holds classes at West Shore. Check their calendar.

It is amazing how well these threads go when someone really does just ask a question

I am not overly concerned about someone grabbing my firearm, but it is a possibility, and I have taken to practicing how to avoid it on TonyF's advice.

Welcome to the PAFOA

None that I know of. Some classes show up on here from time to time. There is some travel involved.

When ever I am near another person (5-10 foot) my right forearm will push my sidearm into my side. When at the range I will always draw from my holster and fire at targets from 25 to 50 foot away.
Now the other day I thought I would draw while moving to my right and fire 3 rounds at the target. I had two targets side by side. So I fired at the one to the left. My heart sank into my socks. I hit the one on the right with all three shots. It opened my eyes alot. More practice is needed and I will be sure to stop moving. Before firing at bad guys. Its good to know that hitting what your aiming at while moving is very very hard (at least for me). Because of my little experiment I now know one more thing not to attempt in a real world situation.
By the way, I hate crowds so I never go to any place with them. With or without a weapon.
I think maybe I will look for some type of school to help me with defensive shooting tactics.
Tip: Shuffle your feet, don't bounce when you move. Don't cross your feet when moving. You can practice moving at home without a gun. You don't need to take huge steps sideways. Shoot while moving and reloading. Don't stop to do either. Only 4 -6 rounds in a magazine while practicing so you have to reload more often.

Drill: Load each magazine with 4 -6 rounds (personally I prefer six). From seven yards, start on center of target. Draw and start moving right. Take all shots while moving. When empty start moving to the left and reload, don't stop moving to reload. And reload without taking your eyes off the target. Don't look at your gun, mag carrier or the new magazine. Then empty that magazine also while moving. Don't stop moving until you have exhausted all 3 magazines. Go slow at first to hone the technique. You can also do this moving forward and backward. Start at 7 yards and move to within 3 feet while shooting. Reload and shoot while moving backwards.

Default Re: concerns about a disarm and level of skill?

Thank you all for taking the question seriously and not as a slam on OC.

The people at ATSA are really awesome. Thanks for referring them PA Patriot! I've been to their NTI test several times and have always come away wondering if I really know as much as I thought in this area. (if you attend, you will understand)

A couple thoughts to expand on this:

Force on force training using something like airsoft or simunitions is invaluable.

Weapon retention training is also invaluable, whether you carry OC or CC.

The firearm/ammo combination is much more important than we all thought (if/when you get into a situation that may require a firearm) I know, I was there tonite!

I haven't attended in about 8 years, but yes, I understand

I attended for several years in the 90's

Say "Hi" to Jim and Skip, as well as everyone else for me. I really need to get my but down there. I'm only an hour and a half and some away.
