Default Pleasant non-LEO encounter in VA

Went to Front Royal VA to do some work at my mothers' house as they are planning on selling it soon and moving to Florida. I open carried the whole trip except through Maryland of course. Once arriving at my mothers' house, we made the trip to Lowes in Front Royal. We entered through the contractors entrance and there were 5 employees standing there. Several greeted us as we entered and as we passed them I heard a female voice say "Sir, Sir," kinda excitedly from my left side. I turned and she said "Is that a firearm on your hip?". I replied "Yes it is". She then said "Thank you for supporting our second amendment rights." I was thrown off guard as I was all set for the "You can't carry that in here speech". One of the gentleman that was standing there asked me what I was carrying and where I was from. I told him I was from PA, and he asked if I had a VA permit. I said my PA LTCF is good here in VA and you don't need a permit in VA to open carry. We spent another 5 minutes talking about rights and government and guns.

I also got a good comment from a gentleman at the Mobil station when I fueled up Saturday morning. He said "It's nice to see somebody taking responsibility for their safety." He then patted his hip and said "Mine's right here." We talked for a few minutes and went on our separate ways.

Other than having to lock up my firearm while going through the PRMD, it was an uneventful trip.

Great story! I for one get a little tired of always being on the defensive, so when these times come up, I find them very encouraging. I get this reaction from people from time to time too. I think they are a little further along in VA than we are here in PA. But, we are working on it!

That story is inspirational. If that would've happened to me I would've had a hard time containing my want to cheer out loud. Every time I run into a pro gun person w/the same views as myself it makes me very happy.

I'm glad to hear that. I really hope I run into some of the Pro2A people in VA when I go there for vacation.
