RAKKASAN is on a distinguished road
Default extra mag questions

Greetings all I am new here to this board. I have had my LTCF for 6 years and exercise that right every day. I wanted to get a couple opinions on extra magazines. Do you carry them? If so how do you carry them, pouch, pocket, ect. Thanks
in advance to any who reply.

One extra 7 round mag for the 1911. Usually in the weak side pocket.

I have belt pouches, but they seem bulky to me for everyday carry.

Carrying extra mags IMO is a good idea. You may never need it, but I'd rather have it and not need it versus needing it and not having it. How you carry extra mags would depend on the situation and the weapon being carried.

At least one extra magazine in a support side belt mounted pouch. Magazines are the weak link in an auto-loader. And if it isn't readily accessible it does you no good.

I've heard you can over-insert G17 mags into a G19/G26 and create one heck of a malf. Have you ever experienced that when you practice?

I don't.
Mainly due to my carry method/dress.

When I carry my Pony or P32 it rides in an inside-the-waistband holster.
I'm not a big guy and the way I dress makes it difficult to conceal well when holster is on a belt (which I rarely wear).
Without a belt, I'm not sure where I could carry a spare mag.

Tony makes a good point...

This is very true. You can't drop a mag and replace it if you have nothing to replace it with!

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes a mag holder that clips on like my holster. I hadn't really given it much thought until reading this. If such a creature exists, I will look into it.

Fobus is far from my first choice as a CCW holster but the paddle holster I loan out at classes is EXTREMELY secure without a belt. The design of the paddle really bites into your trousers. IIRC they offer a mag pouch with the same style paddle. You might want to give one a try.

Don't normally carry a spare mag, but since my p95 will hold 17 rds with a high cap it's not as big a deal as a gun that only holds 7 or 8. When I get a smaller gun (my p95 is next to impossible to conceal without a noticeable bulge) I will most likely carry at least 1 extra.
