Any of you guys ever carry down there on vacation? I'm staying in Kill Devil Hills. The pistol is going to stay in the truck or hotel during my stay, hard to conceal a P220 when wearing swimming trunks. Any places you know that are off limits, like the National Seashore Areas, or the ferry boats. I know the Wright Brothers Memorial is off limits.

Thanks in advance for any answers,

Two things:

1. I'm jealous, I love the outer banks, haven't been there in.. 10 years

2. North Carolina has some very strange carry laws (at least compared to PA). I think any place that charges admission is off-limits to carry. Don't take my word for it though, I haven't looked up the statutes in a few years.

Try this for info on NC's carry laws. I visit that area often and never have a problem.

North Carolina is more restrictive then PA with were firearms are not permitted, concealed or open carry.

This is correct. There are a number of other off limit areas: banks, establishment that sell alcohol for consumption ie. restaurants, bars. But you can carry into the food store to buy a case of beer, no worries. Also you are required to inform the officer when stopped by producing your LTCF along with your other ID.(That is if you are carrying at the time.)

The font in that PDF doesn't make for fastest reading, but it is a nice compendium of info on NC firearms laws.

No kidding...a permit, just to purchase a firearm?!?!? I sort of expected southern states to have fewer restrictions. The more I learn about other states' requirements, the more I like PA (except for our archaic, socialist liquor laws).

I actually know some NY(originally)/NJ liberals who moved to the Charlotte area after 15 years in FL. They call them "half-backs", 'cause they moved half way back to where they started!

I've been going down there saince I was a kid. Have you ever been there before? Not to sure on the carry laws myself, but the admission thing sounds familiar.

I am curious of all this too. Staying in Corolla in July. Been down there twice in the past. But I was too young to carry at the time. Very nice area. I would like to know answers to these questions, but with research that I did, I can not come up with a straight answer on carrying on the beach itself, or the surrounding areas for that fact. I may call our realty rental office and ask for the local PD's phone number and call them. I fear, though, I will be met with the answer of It will be wiser if you didn't carry here. It is a shame us law abiding folk have to do all this research to exercise a right. Good grief.
