Sure, you could do that. And probably should if you can.

But this is an opportunity to test your shooting skills in a shoothouse. What would you have learned about yourself by walking away, other than how to walk away?

Who needs the bedtime story? Its irrelevant. Get in the house. Its a training environment; nothing in there is going to hurt you. Learn how to operate in something more than a square range.

BTW given the scenario you describe why not get your nephew and yourself far from the house and call the police? It's supposed to be an empty house, the corpse if there is one won't be going anywhere anyway, and you can always visually track the person who may have done the shooting from much further away as they leave without endangering yourself and your nephew. If no one is seen leaving the house until the police get there, let THEM clear the house (yes I remember you're one of THEM but you're not on duty or a cop in that shitcityusa, you're just a private citizen who owns that house).

thoughts?
Vlad, like Ken has stated. You have a problem dumped in your lap and you have to deal with it. The easiest thing in the world would be to walk away. Just like in many "what would you do" scenaios where people say they would never allow themselves to be put in a particular situation. IMHO this is the response of people who are not willing to test their software and instead intend to try to avoid anything until they are backed into a corner and then pull all their hope in their bullet thrower. This is a thinking man's game.

Real world, in the scenario described, I'd certainly walk away.

Training scenario? Hurray!!! I can't walk away from a bump in the night in my house, and a scenario like that is training you just can't get on an ordinary trip to the range.

Guys, thanks for the write up. I'd not heard of this facility, and $22 is a whiz bang of a deal for realistic (sounds like) training. Wife and I will be interested in attending in June.

Is there a max size? A need to register early? How many rounds should we bring? I'm assuming that I'll be able to use my SP101, though if not I can always bring the Security Six or Model 59. Cathy will not be seperated from her XD9. Though if it is as good as it sounds, we'll want to attend more and I may "encourage" her to shoot the course with the Security Six sooner or later.

Joe,

Sorry, I just noticed your questions today.

Is there a max size?
No, not really. We haven't had a Study Group meeting I'm aware of that was so large that we had to turn people away.

Quote:
A need to register early?
There is no early registration. If you are interested in studying and training with us just show up at 9am on the third Saturday of the month and when you enter the clubhouse let Jim know you're here for Study Group.

Bring whatever you normally carry or train with. Bring a good holster. 200 rounds is plenty. Often our practical application drills go through less than that many.

The NTI/ATSA Study Group is not a formal "course". We are a collection of men and women who come together each month to study the craft during a morning lecture period, and we practice specific drills and shooting goals in the afternoons during practical application. This is not a course; consider it "continuing education."

Pa. Patriot, once this Dickson City nuisance dies down I look forward to seeing you there. When was it you were last a regular attendee?

Thanks for the write-up/info! This sounds like a great opportunity!

I think this has been answered, but I just want to reconfirm... The 'Study Sessions' are open to anyone who wants to show up?

Is prior training required? If so, how is credentialing handled?

This sounds too good to be true... High-end training/sustainment training for just a few bucks per session?

Carnes,

We're not there with the sole intention of training others. This is not a training school designed to teach students. The men and women who run the annual NTI event meet each month to train together with each other. But anyone of good moral character and with a good attitude is invited to train with us.

You will learn by spending time with us and performing the drills alongside us. You'll learn some good techniques for drawstokes, reloads, the tap-rack-bang, etc by both watching us do them and from the Team Members correcting you as you need that help. But there won't be an instructor standing in front everyone at the range conducting the session like you see at a gun course. Its not all that much different than going to your local dojo and apprenticing.

Prior training is not required, but a basic knowledge of how your gun works helps. We do expect safe gun handling.

Credentialing? We don't ask anyone to provide proof of training classes when you show up at Study Group. But we do expect good attitudes.

To good to be true? Two people here in the thread have commented on Study Days. I've been involved for coming up on 10 years now. Its been a regular event on the Club calendar for nearly 15. But if you still don't believe it, come out and evaluate it for yourself in June.

Josh,

There's a bunch of ACSHA members that both come out to Study Days and work the NTI annual event. Butterfield, Doug Gochenour before he passed, Fitzgerald, Roth just to name a few. You're welcome to come out and spend Study Days with us.
