Default Barnes & Noble, Broadcasting Square in Wyomissing

I was at the Barnes and Noble in Broadcasting Square last Sunday with the family, and wanted to see if anyone else experienced the same thing as me. Basically, I set off the alarm on the anti-theft fences on either side of the doors when I entered and exited the store.

I have walked through a number of these security posts in other stores before while CC'ing without incident. Are the B&N anti-theft devices also generic metal detectors as well? I don't know what would've caused it other than my M&P. It was awhile ago, but I've been in that store before without carrying (prior to getting my LTC) and all the other items I normally have on me (pocket knife, cell phone, keys) didn't set it off then.

If anyone else has had a similar experience, please share it. Thanks!

I had a wallet, and in it I found a security tag that I didn't know about. Funny, as I carried this wallet for a long time prior to this. It would set off that barnes and noble, wal mart in wyomissing, best buy, circuit city, and a host of other places... I'm sure it wasn't your handgun.

There's a tag hidden somewhere else on you.

The way those things work, is kid of like eazy pass. A signal interrogates the device, energizes it, so it can relay a specific signal back.

More likely you managed to pick up a sensor tag somewhere (check the bottoms of your shoes)

The anti-theft sensor towers at a retail store work by emitting a high frequency RF field that sets up a resonance in the sensor tags which then produces a secondary RF signal that is detected by the tower...

So the chances of some random piece of metal setting it off is so slim it's not even worth mentioning.

But I do know that when I was 13, I managed to snag a roll of active sensor tags and I'd leave them on the floor of stores, sticky side up so people would step on them and then set off the alarm when they walked out

(I know, I was a devious bastard when I was a kid)

I think you've been bugged, be on the look out for black helicopters.

Seriously, it really does sound strange- I doubt it was the gun though. I pass through those things regularly while carrying and I have yet to set one off- including the Barnes & Noble in Exton, PA (in fact, I just carried in there two weekends ago).

No, the Lowes by Fire Mountain in Indiana, about 2 miles from WalMart.

Not paranoid at all, just confused over why I was setting the damn thing off.

Yup, know all about RFID and related RF technologies. I just didn't think I had one on me. I might have picked up something on my shoes, but there's nothing on them now (I just checked). I'll have to check my jeans, as I believe I was wearing a relatively new pair that day; maybe there's a tag hiding somewhere.

I set it off all the time. I passed thought without my Ruger or Beretta and still set it off. Took the Badge out of my wallet and still set it off took the wallet our of my pocket and change and dog tags off had no metal in me and still set the dam thing off. And this was while I was going in.

To this day I don't know why but it still buzzes and goes off whenever I get near it.

I don't remember the UFO but that may be it
