Question Re: CC/OC with round chambered

5 round cylinder with one empty chamber = 80% ability to protect yourself.

Default Re: CC/OC with round chambered

All the time. When I first started "packing" I always carried on an empty chamber. But after a couple of months I realized that if the hammer never accidentally dropped on my empty chamber, it was not going to do so on a live round. Since then it's been "locked and loaded" although I carry a double action only so it's not really locked. just a figure of speech. Also the trigger pull on my p-11 is so long and heavy it takes a concentrated effort to make it go off when you want it to. Brushing against the trigger ain't gonna do it.

I carry my 1911 cocked and locked all the time. you might as well beat the bad guy with your gun if you don't have a loaded round

Common sense, always chambered. To the OP or to anyone else new to carrying, respect guns, but don't be afraid of them so that you don't have it properly ready.

Don't let someone telling you about loaded Glocks or 1911's being unsafe or using some variation of the Israeli argument dissuade you into carrying chambered. With that said, make sure you go over your carry setup well. Look for snagging points from either your gun or your clothes, stuff in pockets, etc.

You may need your hand to deflect a wrench/knife/gun, not to be racking the slide. I think that's just setting yourself up for unneccesary extra steps that could have dire consequences.

I always carry with a chambered round. On top of that, I leave a squib round lodged in the barrel so I can send two down the pipe on my first shot and double my chances of hitting the bad guy.

While in some instances double is better than single, you may want to reconsider the squib idea, I think it may cause a significant reduction in muzzle velocity, and the pieces of your gun won't be properly aimed.

You are joking about the squib round I hope!
