Default Interesting little device...

I think I speak for nearly everyone who OC's that we all have concerns regarding encounters with LEO. This device might be some handy insurance.

Let me know what you all think about this.

That is cool! Problem is that you can record video without someone knowing, but it is illegal to record video with audio. If you tried to use footage of a traffic stop with audio in court, you might end up in the pokey! It's still a neat item, though!

NOt sure if that applies to recording an LEO performing his publicly paid job in public. Anyone know the answer? Also you are recording a conversation between you and someone else, that should be permitted as well.

On a public street in broad daylight there's no expectation of privacy. They might try to give you shit about it, bend and contort the law to try and make it fit, but they couldn't really convict you of anything.

edit: hope that answers your question wewo.

Gotta disagree with you on this one, MarcS.. I do agree about there is no expectation of privacy, but the law is contorted and worded badly.

There has been a couple cases in the last few years where people have recorded traffic stops, either as bystanders or as passengers in the vehicle that got stopped - resulting in arrest and I think conviction.

nothing a cellphone and a call to your voicemail can't get done. No need to do it in secrecy tell the officer you'll be recording the convo for any possible court proceedings that may be caused by that particular confrontation.

The cops are not your enemies and mostly just trying to do their jobs as best they can. If you are having trouble at a stop, remain calm and ask that a supervisor be called to the scene. If the cop refuses and continues to hassle you without a good reason, yes you are indeed f'd. Far as I know, that would never happen unless the cop had a hard on for you in particular rather than just a problem with OC.

Nice, but it doesn't say anything about audio. The audio component would have more value.

As far as legal liability, there was already a thread about the police hassling people videotaping them during traffic stops. It went nowhere.
