BATF maintains a list of dealer-related information. When a PA dealer sells a firearm to a non-FFL licensee, the dealer runs the background info through the PA-based NICS system.

SIDEBAR: When a federally-licensed gun shop shuts down, they are required to turn in their records to BATF. I have heard credible reports that BATF has been entering gun sales information, particularly the end purchaser information, from out-of-business FFL records into a computerized database. However, that would only pertain to sales made from businesses no longer in operation.

The ATF can trace for firearms purchased if a 4473 was filled out.

very interesting but if that was me i would tell them to show me a warrant and if they didnt have one to come back when they did... they definetly violated your rights. although you had no reason not to show your gun to them, they didnt have any right waiting outside of your house for you without a warrant

I'm confused, what right was violated, the ATF asked and he agreed?
