Default good relatively inexpensive holster for 1911

looking for something with retention, on a budget of around $50, what do you suggest?

$50 will limit you to a SERPA or maybe a nylon/cordura w/thumb strap.

Maybe more, just not than I can think of off the top of my head.

Do you want to conceal? If so, how important is printing?

I ask only because it will have alot to do with the holster. SERPA's are great holsters, and are fine to OC or even to conceal under a coat or shirt, or if you don't care about printing (I don't).

If you want deeper concealment, and can increase your budget by $20-$30, you can get into some nice leather holsters by Galco, Safariland, or any number of other mid-level holster manufacturers

I carry a 1911 every day in a Don Hume J.I.T. $45.00, all leather. It has held up for almost 2 years now, no problems. I wouldn't recommend it if your worried about retention.

OC only, prefer plastic.

I have a cheap nylon holster, looks unprofessional

Have you looked at the SERPA?

Start there. Fits your needs mentioned (plastic/$50)

+1 for SERPA. I think it is one of the better kydex holsters out there for the money. I have one for my Sig P220.

SERPA is looking attractive, any advantage of carbon fiber over polymer? with my discount the polymer is $32.99 at MidwayUSA.

The carbon fiber is not actually made out of carbon fiber. That's the one I bought. It is just a carbon fiber-looking sticker on the outside of the same kydex holster. I would save the cash and get the regular kydex.

Other than cosmetics, I'm not aware of any difference. Personally I like the matte finish better.
