Chester County Government Offices - nogo
under what state or federal regulation is concealed (or open) carry prohibited at Chester County Government Offices, at 601 Westtown Road?
or is this a pre-emption issue?
as i understand, this is not a courthouse location, no sign or lockers are provided, but there is a metal detector and "weapons" are prohibited - including my knife with a blade less than 3"

Re: Chester County Government Offices - nogo
18 Pa.C.S. § 913
Even if it meets the definition required to ban firearms, the lack of signs and lockers is a problem.

Re: Chester County Government Offices - nogo
i asked security, they said that location was NOT a courthouse.
maybe they were wrong, but if that's the case, i'd like to hear confirmation that it IS a courthouse.
fwiw the conversation with security concerning this was as open, professional and non-confrontational as i could ever expect.

In that case it would be a preemption issue. To be sure though you could contact your local public officials and try to get the question to a solicitor. If you can force the solicitor to issue an opinion on it chances are good you can get the issue fixed.
What department (Sheriff, local police?) was manning the security?

Re: Chester County Government Offices - nogo
not really,
1. i don't have any standing, since i am not a county (or state) resident
2. there is little to be won, since it is a courthouse
that said, they should have lockers and a sign. i think it's a battle for a county resident, if they want to expend the effort

Ah, I didn't see your location.
Well I may be paying them a visit if I get the time to go down tomorrow.
I disagree with point #2 that there is "little to be won" since the little victories like this can be saved and databased proving the pattern of ignorance our officials have of firearms law in PA (a database that is, unfortunately, quite large). That information helps our fights in Harrisburg over State laws.
