If you have any type of hunter education or anything similar, you do not need a course for the Fl. permit, everything you need to know about the Fl. permit can be found here, just follow the directions. I will tell you, when I got mine it took about 70 days from the time i mailed application package till i got the permit, the state was quick, the holdup was with the FBI, seems they like to take their time when they do their part......but all in all, easy process...

Update on Chester County references: Dispite what the application says ( the refs SHOULD be county residents), the desk officer behind the glass said that he would not issue me a permit if one of my refs did not come from the county. Had to scramble a bit, because most of my college friends are scattered around the state.

When I applied to Erie County for my license, I had to give 2 references I believe. I was told they need not be residents of Erie county or PA even; just 2 people I knew for x number of years (can't remember how many, but I've know both my references for over 20). They were not contacted, but it was no big deal to me if they had been; both know I carry and have no issues with it. I guess I would probably see the sheriff with a copy of the PA UFA as one suggested here, and then get in touch with the AG office to see what can be done from there. In the meantime, it's probably a good idea to invest in a FL or UT license. I believe that even if you are a resident of PA, you can carry under a reciprocal state's non-resident license, but you may want to verify that first just to be safe so you don't run into trouble down the line. But I hope all goes well with you.

Three weeks in so far. They have a new reference to replace the out of county reference (Shhh... It's the same reference, but her in-county/in-town address) but the clerk told me she doesn't think that "the sheriff will like it if they're college students"

As long as the references are residents of the county, with an address (read, not premenant residents, just residents, like...living there, residing....) that should meat the sheriff's made-up requirements.

I'm giving them the full 45 days before I try talking to the sheriff in person. More out of an obscene curiosity than anything. I know I said I was going to make an appointment with him last week, but time got away from me. I might call to see if he looked at it, but that's about it. Another thing that's bugging me is the way she asked me "How long have you been self-employed?" when she was going over my application. Not just because she had to enter it (If she did, that is) into her computer, but like she didn't even believe me and thought I was bullshitting. I offered to get her my last two years' worth of employers' contacts, from before I registered my business, but she told me very coldly "If he wants to know more, he'll just run a deeper background check." I'm probably repeating some stuff here, but I'm back to not happy at the Sheriff since I opened this thread again to skim to the last replies. Grah. Who wants to bet that little incident while I was OCing at WalMart has gotten back to him and I'll find a denial because of it? |
