I just came across this. Apparently I got it with the applications, buried under a pile of "Gun Safety Handbook" type documents that I never went through, and figured I'd share. I'm going to the Sheriff's in about an hour so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks.
I'm hoping it's no issue, though. I'd ideally like to get this by Christmas as a personal gift to me. But I know the odds. |

Well, I'm back. Didn't talk to the Sheriff, got one of his office women (Neither in uniform/class B (Do police/sheriff departments even have a class B?) so I assume they weren't deputies, just office staff) for a five minute fun conversation.
My two references were null. Two college students, both fitting all the requirements (Have lived full time in PA for three years, over 21, and I've known them for three years.) but because they're college students and living in dorms, they "don't count as county residents." I used a quick "I asked several people from other counties about those requirements, and they told me that technically they go against the statute, and are also technically illegal additions" to get a feel for how the rest of the conversation was going to go, and got back "The sheriff is in charge of the county, whatever he says, goes. It's not up to other counties to tell us what to do in our county." And then, out of nowhere as she was putting in the information (She put it in, but there won't be any action on it until I call in with new references) she said "You owning a gun, you know that's a right. But this, this is a privelege, and it's up to us who can carry concealed." Buh? So I guess I have to wait another two and a half years for my newer acquaintances to have known me for three years. Oy vey. Overall, not impressed. She was pretty curt the whole time. As I walked up the hallway the two women in the office were chatting, laughing, the occasional giggle. The second I walked in the door it's like I had just raped their eldest daughter in front of them. Not a smile to be seen. |

I'd call and make an appointment to talk directly with the Sheriff. I would not be confrontational and have plenty of "yes sirs" and "no sirs" ready.
If that failed I'd call the Pa Attorney General's office. Again I'd be very cordial.

Wow they really are just making up this shit. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I agree that I would call the sheriff and make an appoitment. Take a copy of the UFA and have the appropriate sections highlighted. Just present the information. If he refuses to do anything, contact the AG.

Hi all, been lurking for a little while. I'm filling out my permit for Chester County right now, and wanted to add to the questions about references, specific to the Chester sheriff. I'm a senior in college, out of state, and before that I was at Valley Forge Military. As a result, I really don't have anyone who can vouch for me as a reference. Before VF....well, I wasn't the safest of lads
. Anyway, most of my friends from the last 5 years are out of state ( New York, Wyoming, West Virginia, etc). While the application says should be, I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience with the sheriff being a hardass about it. Thanks. |

Get a Utah or Florida permit if it takes three years for a resident of PA to attain the full rights and privileges.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might just go that route.
Who was it here on the forum that does the course over on the west side of PA? I had their website open but forgot to bookmark it. |
