Hey guys,

I'm new to this site but have been reading many of the posts the past few weeks. I moved to Delaware county a few years ago and now have to renew my LTCF. The last time I got a LTCF was in Columbia county where I lived at the time. As I remember it took all of about 3 days.

So I went to the courthouse in Media on November 16th and paid $46, filled out my paperwork and a girl there took my picture. She had dark hair and glasses and seemed very friendly. There were several other people filling out their apps at the same time. No real problems it was basically in and out.

I've read others post that the sheriff in delco requires contacts at your employer but I did not see any such information requested on the application. Perhaps they will call me to request my manager's phone number but so far I've heard nothing. I doubt it would really cause any problems for me but I really rather they not contact my work.

So now a month has gone by and one of my references called me yesterday to let me know that they had been contacted by the sheriff as part of my background check. Does anyone know how long after the reference check they usually take?

Some of the things I've read regarding delco have really made me grit my teeth a bit but I'm just hoping to have my renewed LTCF by spring.

Take care and happy holidays.

My references and employer were contacted the same day, about a week later I got my card to pick up the LTCF, but all of that was after the 45 days it's supposed to take.

The application I used I downloaded from the Sheriff's web site, (http://www.co.delaware.pa.us/sheriff/gunpermit2.pdf) blocks 20 thru 26 ask for your employer and phone number.

Good Luck,
Bill

Hey SoberByker,

I've enjoyed reading many of your posts.

I did list my employer but in the work phone and cell phone sections I just put my cell phone # and my office #. If they call my work they'll just get my desk. I fully expect they'll call me at some point and ask for my manager's contact information.

is anyone here who applied for an LTCF in delco self-employed?

what does the sheriff do in that case?

they'd call my office and ask for the manager or whatever and they would get me...

"well sheriff...i seem to get along with myself just fine...haven't ever had any cause to consider firing myself or anything like that. yeah, overall, i'd say i'm a pretty good employee...and, as far as i can tell from my interactions with myself while at work, i think i'm probably a very responsible citizen even outside of work. so, i can't say that i can think of any reasons why you should not grant me an LTCF. is that what you wanted to know?"

Or you could do like some one told me they had done to them once, the reference was asked if the person had a problem with drugs or alcohol, the ref said No not at all, at least not last night, he drank about 40 oz and snorted a douzen lines of coke, I would say he had no problem at all!!!!

On my application I did not give out my manager's phone number or name and the sheriff's office still go the info and called them. I was pissed because my manager is a born again Christian and I didn't know his stance on guns. He told me he was fine with it but just not to bring it into work. Good luck.

Did you, or are you going to complain to the commissioners and the AG?

Anyone want to make a form letter addressing this particular issue?

I manage a store, and we are not allowed to give out any information on employees except wether or not they are currently employeed and if they are not are they eligable for re-hire. Our HR department has stated that LEGALLY we cannot give out any other info or else we open ourselves up to liability.

Yep, Shawn, that's the party line at the company I work for. Funny thing, though. My boss was behind me in line at the Sheriff's office filling out his app. We took a long lunch to take care of them.

We also both got them in the mail about 2 weeks later.

Northampton Cty, btw
