Default I got banned from my girlfriend's parent's house...

...basically.

So her parents live in Vermont, and she says I'm invited to go up for xmas, but the catch is they don't allow guns in the house. I say no problem, I just won't go if that's their policy. I didn't even give her any shit, even though it kinda pisses me off.

Cue shitstorm.

Somehow, I'm the asshole for not going. She wants me to go but keep my gun in the car. They live in a vitually crime-free area, but I don't take chances like that, so I say no. Besides, I find it insulting that I'd have to do that.

Kinda ironic they feel that way given the state they live in...good ol' gun-friendly Vermont. Oh well.

Well, the bottom line is that it is THEIR house. I respect your view not to go, but don't expect to walk away without the shit storm. I have been married for a while, and will tell you, some things are worth the shit storm and some are not. Only you can decide...

If the reason of not going is because you would have to leave your gun in car and enter their house but you don't take chances like that,,I'd say your a little paronoid.
I understand you want your firearm with you,, but you can't part with it to enter a house? You need help.

Even if having a gun in their house weren't an issue, you'd have to "take chances like that" as you leave PA anyway. New York's a big state and you gotta go through it to get to Vermont, so (legally) you have to unload your gun and lock it up at some point. You've drawn the line and let your GF know on which side of it you stand. Hope it was worth it.

It's good your respecting their wishes, and obviously you can say then i'm not going..

But don't think your gonna have much of a future with that g/f of yours if you don't go.

If she's the right girl I don't know that i'd throw it away over her parents being antigun.

I think that's a wee bit insulting.
He is also taking a stand for his beliefs. Whether we would do the same or not is no t the issue.

In the end he's respecting their wishes while not abandoning his convictions and beliefs. That's commendable IMO regardless of what I would do.

Gotta agree, their house, their rules. Of course you could suggest that you'd be willing to go and just not stay at the house. You could get a room at a local motel/hotel/whathaveyou and just go by for a few visits at the appropriate times.

As someone said, you have to choose your battles. If she does not care for you carrying, and just puts up with it, then this may be the battle that needs to be fought, as the longer it is put off, the worse it will be when it gets here. But if she is fine with your guns, then sometimes you need to respect the wishes of others. You can possibly persuade her, but her parents are going to be harder to break. Just think if you have kids, will you go along with the kids to see their grandparents? Sometimes, you need to just give in as well.

But maybe you can talk with the old man, explain your position over a beer or two, and his thoughts will change. Maybe it is time to move on....

Edit: I am glad I have cool in-laws who have more guns in their house than I do. Not that it takes much....but I still love their pro-gun beliefs....and my wife for adopting those same beliefs.

You either misunderstood my reason, or you're a dick. I'll assume the former.

I'm just not happy about leaving my handgun in an unsecured vehicle in a strange place I know almost nothing about. I can and do leave it at home in my safe sometimes, such as when I go into Delaware, so I'm really not being paranoid.
